OCASI Member Agencies
Hello everyone,
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has approached OCASI
with an opportunity that will not only help your clients gain the skills and
confidence to become better informed citizens, but also provide your agency
with yet another vehicle that will demonstrate your ongoing commitement to
your clients. I invite you to read through the program details and consider how
beneficial this specialized program will be for your clients
For the vast majority of Canadians, owning their own home is a lifelong dream.
But making this dream come true can be a challenging - or even an
overwhelming one, especially for new Canadians and those with modest
incomes.
To help these Canadians and anyone else interested in buying and owning their
own home, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has
developed the new “Buying and Owing a Home Seminar”: a detailed (up to 9
hour) seminar that covers virtually every aspect of buying or owning a home. We
would like to work with you to bring this seminar to newcomers in your
community.
“This seminar made us aware of the many details we
needed to know about making a purchase. The seminar
helped take the stress out of buying a home.”

Benefit your community - and your organization
CMHC has the trained staff who are knowledgeable in all aspects of home
ownership. In order to reach as many people as possible who could potentially
benefit from this innovative new seminar, we need organizations like yours to
partner with us, and to bring this information to your community. This partnership
will not cost your organization any money.
We are hoping to work with you to co-sponsor the workshop for your clients. We
are also more than happy to discuss how we can deliver the workshop in a
bilingual format. You can be as involved with CMHC as you would like, or you
can simply host the workshop and invite your clients to attend.
What will participants learn?
Participants will learn everything they need to know to become more familiar
and confident with the home buying and owning process. This workshop does
not attempt to sell participants anything. It is an information workshop focused
on helping newcomers understand what they need to know about buying a
house in Ontario.
Many people want more in-depth information on what type of home will best
meet their needs, without feeling pressured to make any firm decisions. This
seminar provides concrete, valuable tips that could save prospective home
buyers thousands of dollars, and offers the tools they need to:





Determine their housing needs
Assess how much they can afford
Plan and arrange their mortgage
Build their team of housing professionals
Understand day-to-day home maintenance requirements
Ideal for anyone who's interested in buying a home or who simply wants to learn
more about the home buying process and the responsibilities of home
ownership. The seminar will be particularly appealing to:
 First time homebuyers





Renters looking at various cost and owning options
Newcomers to Canada or the Canadian housing market
Students in the housing or finance fields
Home owners who haven't bought a house in recent years and
Organizations that help families and individuals to own their own homes.
The cost to attend a “Buying and Owning a Home Seminar” is $25 per
household, which covers the printing and assembly costs of the comprehensive
guide that is given to all participants.
Based on past seminars, the maximum number of participants should be limited
to 25 people. Seminars can be delivered in various formats to ensure the needs
of the participants are best met.
“I had limited knowledge about purchasing a home. I
found the section on up-front costs and the people you
need to get involved very useful.”
