PRECAUTIONS FOR USE Exposure Standards: Engineering Controls: Ensure ventilation is adequate and that air concentrations of chlorine (decomposition product) is controlled below quoted Exposure Standards. Natural ventilation should be adequate under normal use conditions. Keep containers closed when not in use. Personal Protection: Overalls, Safety Shoes, Chemical Goggles, Gloves (S). Avoid eye contact and repeated or prolonged skin contact. Wear overalls, chemical goggles and impervious gloves. Always wash hands before smoking, eating, drinking or using the toilet. Wash contaminated clothing and other protective equipment before storing or re-using. If risk of inhalation of mists or vapour exists wear organic vapour respirator meeting the requirements of AS/NZS1715 and AS/NZS 1716. Flammability: Non flammable SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION Storage and Transport: Transport or store in a dry place, away from food stiffs, strong acids, oxidising agents and always ensure container is closed when not in use. Store and Transport in accordance with The Australian Dangerous Goods Code. Spills and Disposal: Contain spill with absorbent. Remove for disposal in accordance with Local Waste Management. Flush area with excess water. DO NOT mix with any other chemicals without reference to the manufacturer. Biodegradable, wash spills to sewer. Bulk amounts should be referred to Local authority. Fire/Explosion Hazard: Not combustible. Can decompose upon heating liberating toxic fumes. If safe to do so, remove containers from path of fire. Keep containers cool with water spray. Fire fighters to wear self contained breathing apparatus if risk of exposure to products of decomposition. Suitable extinguishing media - Water fog (or if unavailable fine water spray), foam, dry agent (carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder). OTHER INFORMATION Compliance: Manufactured to satisfy Australian Standards (AS4696-2007) Designed for cold wash application. National occupational exposure limits: Sodium Hypochlorite decomposes to chlorine only after strong acidification. Under normal conditions no hazardous decomposition products are released and no exposure standards are assigned by the N.H. & M.R.C for Sodium Hypochlorite. Exposure Standards for decomposition product: Chlorine 1 ppm; 3 mg/m3; Peak Limitation As published by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (Worksafe Australia). Telephone: 07 3216 5099 Fax: 07 3216 5199 Page 3 of 4 Product: All Clor Extra Peak Limitation - a ceiling concentration which should not be exceeded over a measurement period which should be as short as possible but not exceeding 15 minutes. These Exposure Standards are guides to be used in the control of occupational health hazards. All atmospheric contamination should be kept to as low a level as is workable. Exposure Standards should not be used as fine dividing lines between safe and dangerous concentrations of chemicals. They are not a measure of relative toxicity. An alkaline poison and primary irritant to mucous membranes, throat, gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract. Low systemic toxicity. Based on knowledge of the constituent sodium hypochlorite: Oral LD50 (rat): 8910 mg/kg Stability: Oxidising agent. Reacts vigorously with acids producing toxic chlorine gas. Contamination of solution and exposure to light or heat will accelerate decomposition. Incompatible with most metals. Will react with peroxides, metal salts and reducing agents. Incompatibilities: Common metals, strong acids, strong oxidising agents. Hazardous decomposition products: Toxic fumes of chlorine on acidification or during combustion. Hazardous polymerisation: Will not occur.
