Michael C. Marino, President and Chief Operating Officer Wyse Advertising, Inc. In his 16th year as President of Wyse, and in his 29th year with the company, Michael has helped build Wyse into one of the top-ten-ranked independent advertising companies in the U.S. Managing offices in Cleveland and Detroit, Michael is responsible for operational decision-making. He is also responsible for maintaining client relationships, and for assuring the insight of Wyse strategies and the inspiration of Wyse creative work are up to best-in-class standards. Some well-known Wyse brands are Smucker’s, Dirt Devil, Marathon, Mead, Sherwin Williams, Purell, Rubbermaid and Rockwell. Michael began his advertising career as a junior copywriter at Griswold-Eshleman, and left the company in 1976 as Associate Creative Director. He joined Wyse as the writing half of an award-winning creative team to do TV commercials for Sherwin Williams, Stouffer’s, Sealy and Goodyear. His print ads for Penton Publishing won a very-coveted Best-in-Show Award from the New York Advertising Club, and he has won numerous national creative awards. The Cleveland Society of Communication Arts named him to their Distinguished Communicator Hall of Fame. After 12 years as Creative Director for Wyse, Michael was named Co-President in 1989 and became President in 1993. Michael is a former board member of the Cleveland Advertising Club, and currently serves on the board of The Cleveland Artist’s Foundation. His interests combine a love for writing and graphic arts with a passion for nature science. He is an amateur orchid grower, focusing on art-shade phalaenopsis and species paphliopedilums. He is also an avid collector of mineral specimens, favoring crystalized examples of the carbonate minerals and minerals from midwest localities. Though he grew up in the remote west-side enclave of Rocky River and now lives in Lakewood, Michael has enjoyed many years of visiting Holden. One of his great thrills was spotting a wild cypripedium acaule in bloom while on a hike there. Education: Princeton University, B.A. in Philosophy and English.
