Teaching Series: To Be Continued - Week 2 Campus Pastors Last week: Pastor John taught about the difference between the Apostle Peter we see before the resurrection and after, and what made that difference. At Easter we often focus on what Jesus saved us FROM (and rightly so). But equally as powerful is what Jesus saved us FOR! God has saved us for: 1. Engagement With Jesus Jesus saved us for relationship with himself! Acts 1:13-14 NIV When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Acts 2:17-18 NIV “ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.’ ” 2. Availability To Jesus In the church – community Acts 2:42-47 NIV “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” In the world – witness Acts 2:14-16 & 40-41 NIV “Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel…” With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Conclusion: Being willing and ready “in the moment” Luke 21:14-15 NIV “But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” HOW CAN I RESPOND? GIVING of tithe/offering is an act of worship. PRAYER is available in the back with anyone wearing a prayer team lanyard. CANDLES represent Jesus being the light in any situation. CROSSES are where we trade our sin and struggles for Jesus’ life. WORSHIP is how we honor God by praising Him in song. COMMUNION is how believers honor the eternal sacrifice of Jesus’ life.
