The Disability and Assistive Technology Center (DAT Center) Director’s primary responsibility is to ensure that qualified students with disabilities are provided programmatic as well as physical access to all programs as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and amendments to the ADA. The Director reports to the Executive Director of the Division of Academic Success, for day to day operations and regarding significant disability services issues.
Responsibilities include:
Administrative
Manage daily operation of the DAT Center; open to close; staff in place; students seen; services provided; phone communication; problem solving situations; crisis intervention
Supervise professional and support staff; meet regularly, assess performance annually
Manage professional development plans for staff and self; includes seminars, training and conferences
Manage Disability Services and Assistive Technology budgets and spending
Hire and manage billing for contracted sign-language interpreters and instant-relay interpreters
Oversee DAT Center websites and program publications; updating and writing changes
Supervise the preparation and assure accuracy of the annual student data report, assessment report
UW-System report and surveys
Coordinate the development of grants and oversee grant funding, spending and reporting
Supervise completion and accuracy of student files, computer data base, information records, and logs
Read and respond to program related emails
Supervise the training of DAT Center student test proctors and other student employees
Determine eligibility for enrollment into modified Math 100 (students with a learning disability); make arrangements with students, instructor, math department and Records & Registration
Manage small scholarship application and fund; provide scholarship information to students
Meet with faculty as needed to assure classroom accommodations are provided
Coordinate efforts with Information Technology to assure operation and support of computer technology is in place for DAT Center
Supervise the development and implementation of UWSP policies and procedures relative to disability services are in compliance with UW System policy as well as Federal laws
Direct Service
Evaluat e and determine student’s documentation appropriateness; and determine eligibility of students for DAT Center services
Meet with students to determine and plan for accommodations and services
Manage crisis intervention and problem situations with students as they occur
Meet with prospective students and parents relative to program services
Outreach and Training
Collaborate with directors and staff of UWSP service programs, including but not limited to: Tutoring
Learning Center, Counseling Center, Health Services, Career Services, and Advising Center
Work with Facility Services, Residential Living, Protective Services and other units to ensure safety and accessibility of campus buildings and grounds for students with disabilities; and assure prioritized snow removal and other barriers for students with mobility concerns
Meet with faculty and staff as needed to ensure that appropriate classroom and other accommodations are provided
Serve as resource and consult with UWSP faculty, staff and administration on accessibility, accommodations and disability issues; provide information, interpret mandates, make recommendations/decisions relative to issues
Provide training/presentations on disability services and disabilities to faculty and staff; and attend information fairs/programs both at UWSP and in the community
Serve on campus committees/work groups as a resource on disability issues, accommodation, accessibility and other concerns relative to Disability Services and Assistive Technology; including serving on the A-Team (Assistance, Access, and Accommodation), Disability Advisory Council, and
Equity and Affirmative Action Committee
Represent UWSP as liaison to UW-System CSSD (Coordinators of Services for Students with
Disabilities)
