The UPMC Altoona Department of Medical Education is pleased to invite the members of the
Departments of Family Medicine, Medicine, Pediatrics & Newborn, and AFP Residents, and members
of the Nursing Department to attend the following Continuing Medical Education Program:

Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

Identify key characteristics of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents including emotional,
behavioral, and cognitive symptoms.
Identify guiding principles of treatment.
Understand the evidence about psychiatric medicine and behavioral treatments for anxiety disorders in
children and adolescents and how to use these treatments.
Provide brief overview of office emergencies.
Recognize emergent from non-emergent clinical scenarios.
Outline initial stabilization.
Establish initial differential diagnoses.
Identify appropriate transport/referral.
Review selected life threatening illnesses that may initially be seen in the office (case based discussions).
Introduce JWCH pediatric sedation service and discuss who we are and what we do.
Discuss important basic principles to pediatric sedation including common medications used.
Discuss the process of referring a child for sedation and explore what is done once they are referred.

UPMC Altoona is accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
UPMC Altoona designates this educational activity for a maximum of two (2) credit hours American Medical Association
