Identify guiding principles of treatment. Understand the evidence about psychiatric medicine and behavioral treatments for anxiety disorders in children and adolescents and how to use these treatments. Provide brief overview of office emergencies. Recognize emergent from non-emergent clinical scenarios. Outline initial stabilization. Establish initial differential diagnoses. Identify appropriate transport/referral. Review selected life threatening illnesses that may initially be seen in the office (case based discussions). Introduce JWCH pediatric sedation service and discuss who we are and what we do. Discuss important basic principles to pediatric sedation including common medications used. Discuss the process of referring a child for sedation and explore what is done once they are referred. Credit: UPMC Altoona is accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
