Information is presented in a logical, interesting sequence that the audience can easily follow. Elocution: The student demonstrates a strong positive feeling about the topic during the duration of the presentation while maintaining eye contact with the audience and not looking excessively DSN Scoring Rubric Page 1 at notes. The student’s voice is loud enough to be heard by the entire audience, but not excessively loud. It is clear that the student has practiced delivery of the presentation prior to it being delivered in class as there are no unnatural pauses, verbal stumbling, or guttural sounds between thoughts such as “uhm.” Quality & Thoroughness: The student uses high-quality visual aids, handouts, PowerPoint slides or other visual aids to enhance the quality of the presentation. All visual aids are of superior quality, are visually interesting, are informative relative to or in support of the topic and are easy for the audience to follow. Professionalism: The presentation falls within the established timeframe without going overtime and without being too short. The student does not rush to finish at the end nor does the student drag at the end to justify meeting the established timeframe when in fact the student had not prepared enough material for the allotted time. The presentation is presented in such a way that the interest of the audience is maintained throughout the duration. The student allows for a Q&A following the presentation and is able to fully answer the questions posed. Uses Current Sources: Evidence from the literature used to support claims; arguments or assertions in oral presentation have been published within the last five years and are on-point with what is asserted in the paper. If older sources are needed for the presentation, student clearly discloses the date of the source and why the exception was necessary that the source was needed for the presentation. Use of Direct Quotes: Use of direct quotes from other sources is minimal and when used, the quoted material is appropriately verbally enclosed in quotes and immediately followed by (if not clearly articulated before giving the quote) formal citation of the original source for the quote.
