A. D. ‘Monty’ Montgomery, Jr.

Monty Montgomery has served the Mississippi Development Authority since February 2002. He began his
service in Economic Development Research and much of his efforts concentrated on the utilization of
Mississippi’s vast abundance of Natural Resources and the development of energy projects.
In September 2005 the MDA was restructured and the Office of Natural Resources/Asset Development was
established. Montgomery was chosen to help focus the state’s efforts to utilize it natural resources, develop
alternative energies, assist lake and water front developments and enhancing energy infrastructure across
the state.
Prior to this, he spent twelve years as Mayor of his hometown of Weir from 1989-2001. During this tenure
Montgomery worked to secure some twenty-five grants for his community.

During the Administration of Governor Kirk Fordice, Montgomery was a key local leader in promoting and
developing the Red Hills EcoPlex and Red Hills Power Plant in Choctaw County. His efforts worked to
secure and develop the natural gas pipeline infrastructure to Red Hills for the Weir Municipal Gas System
at no cost its citizens and generating local economic benefits to Choctaw County.
Through his involvement with the Municipal Gas Authority of Mississippi and the Governor’s Task Force,
Montgomery became very familiar with the economic potentials of the energy infrastructure and natural
resources of our state. He has since continued to research and promote the vast potential that Mississippi
has, to be a major player to meet America’s demand for greater energy supplies, alternative energies,
efficiencies and economic prosperity.

Montgomery has a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi and
recently received an Executive Certification Masters of Science Degree in Economic Development from
the University of Southern Mississippi. He is also a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the
University of Oklahoma and additional work in Community Development Leadership at Georgia Tech.
Monty and his wife, Susan have three children, Meredith 25, Leslie 20, and Anna 5 and lives in Madison.
