Completing your Key Stage Assessments – Key Stage 1 - Crib Sheet
DEADLINE: Friday 22nd June 2012
The following is a checklist of actions required to complete your Key Stage Assessments and send your data.
Basic information on navigating in SIMs is also provided, but does not describe the full processes
involved – please refer to the help sheets and resources provided on the ICT website

Import the 2012 Wizard into your MIS
Within SIMS – Routines | Data In | Assessment | Import > Browse (Folder with magnifying glass symbol) > Click on
the “Look In:” drop down menu and select App Virt (Q:) > double click SIMS v.08 > double click SIMS.net > double
click AMPA > double click England Primary > double click Assessment Manager > double click Key Stage 1
Wizard England 2012 > Finish > Close

Run the required KS1 mark sheet
SIMs – Tools | Performance | Assessment | Wizard Manager > Highlight Key Stage 1 Wizard England 2012 > Next
> Browser (magnifying glass symbol) > Hit the + symbol next to Year Group and highlight “2” > Apply > Next.

Are all pupils included, including recent arrivals and pupils out of year?
Any pupils arriving BEFORE summer half-term must be included. If you have pupils out of year, create a User
Defined Group: SIMs - Focus | Groups | User Defined Assessment Group Primary, and add the correct pupils.

Print mark sheets (if required)
SIMs – follow the steps in Ser 2 – “Run the required KS1 mark sheet”, and once the mark sheet is displayed, click
on Print
Teachers enter assessments – either on printed mark sheets or directly into SIMs (refer to SIMs
guidance for setting up teacher access to mark sheets)

Subjects required: Speaking & Listening, Reading, Writing, Maths (overall level). Scientific enquiry, Life process &
living things, Materials and properties, Physical processes (software calculates overall Sci)

Enter assessment results into mark sheet in your MIS
SIMs – follow the steps in Ser 2 – “Run the required KS1 mark sheet” above. Enter the results in the mark sheet
grids. Regularly “Calculate” and “Save”

If a result cannot be entered into MIS, then go back to teacher to check valid values being used
SIMs – right click on the marksheet grid and it will give the valid value for that subject
Have any pupils been awarded a “W” for any results? If they are SEN, they also need a P Scales
mark sheet completing for those subjects.

First, import the P Scales wizard – follow the steps in Ser 1 – “Import the 2012 Wizard into your MIS” but import the
Pscale Template 2012 > Next, Import Templates > Next > KS1 B P Scale Data Entry 2012 > Finish.
Then open the marksheet – follow the steps in Ser 2 - “Run the required KS1 mark sheet” but use the KS1 B P Scale
Data Entry. Regularly “Calculate” and “Save”. Check your valid scores - pEng for low scores P1i to P3II, or higher
scores P4 – P8 in individual subject components. pMAT for low scores P1i to P3II, or higher scores P4 – P8 in
individual subject components. pSci for scores P1i to P8 (no individual subject components)

Have all pupils got marks? Leave no blanks

Print off completed mark sheet and get checked by teacher/headteacher – amend as required

Export CTF file from MIS – destination is “Norfolk”
Routines | Data Out | CTF | Export CTF. Select Year 2 pupils only. Include Student Basic Details and Assessment
Data only. (Any P Scales results are automatically picked up in the CTF export process)

Go to desktop and open Anycomms Outbox/CTF Export Folder

Move new CTF (.xml) file into KS1 sub-folder in Anycomms Outbox
If CTF (.XML) file not in Outbox/CTF Export Folder, then your SIMS Setup may be wrong. A helpsheet called “How to
export Key Stage Assessment Results in SIMs” is available on the ICT website.

Start Anycomms call to upload exported CTF file to Norfolk LA

Check file uploads successfully
You must respond to status messages and correct any errors.
DEADLINE: Friday 22nd June 2012 (to allow LA to complete checks)

Any amendments to results?
Please inform county (Chris Jackson/Dom Mingaye) if you upload a new file via Anycomms to Norfolk LA

Test Results in MIS
There is a mark sheet for Test Results in SIMs but Norfolk LA do not require this

Print reports for parents if required
