Landcare Fellowship to the US in September-October 2009 – applications required by 15 May –short notice regretted Background Australian Landcare International (ALI) finances travel fellowships to enable Victorian Landcare coordinators to go overseas to learn how Landcare operates elsewhere, to develop links with other countries and to promote the Australian movement. Previous Fellows were Stephen Guy (NZ 2007) and John Robinson (Virginia and North Carolina, USA 2008). Another Fellow will visit the US in September-October this year: Friday 25 September -Friday 2 October South West Missouri Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D), Republic , Missouri Rita Mueller, Republic MO Saturday 3-Tuesday 6 October Farm stay – conservation management, urban recycling businesses, Douglas County, Kansas Bo Killough, Lawrence KS Wednesday 7- Friday 9 October King County pest plants and animal staff; Seattle, Washington Steve Burke, Seattle WA Saturday 10-Thursday 15 October Land Trust Alliance (LTA) Rally; Portland, Oregon Jerry Moles, Grayson Landcare co-ordinator, and Virginia Landcare team Post-Rally free to pursue personal travel – costing details to be negotiated A minor change in the departure date may be required but it is very desirable that the Fellow arrives in Kansas City on Friday25 September. Generally the Fellow will be billeted in US homes. Conditions Fellow to adhere to the planned schedule. As Ms Rita Mueller of South West Missouri RC&D will be in Melbourne on holiday in late May, we will select a shortlist of three-four candidates, who will meet her for breakfast in South Melbourne on Saturday 23 May between 8.00-10.00 am. Therefore applications will have to close on 15 May and finalists will be informed as soon as possible after that. And the winner of the Fellowship will be announced by mid June. As the application period is unavoidably short, if you know likely candidates who are away, please tell them what is happening so they can apply in time.
