JOB DESCRIPTION ___________________________________________________________________ Job Title: Information Assistant – HELP ! for Disabled People Project Responsible to: Project Co-ordinator / Senior Caseworker Head of Operations Responsible for: Project Volunteers Salary: £14,889 Hours: FTE (36.5 hours per week) Job Outline: To actively market and promote the HELP! For Disabled People Project To provide an effective and efficient information and advice service for disabled people as part of the HELP! For Disabled People Project. To be responsible for the effective delivery of the Tier 1 HELP! Line including telephone and on-line channels. To develop DRC’s on-line information resources and ensure these are kept up-to-date. To induct, train and supervise project volunteers in line with DRC’s policies and procedures. Key Tasks: To actively market and promote DRC and the HELP! For Disabled People Project through a range of mediums to maximise engagement and involvement. To provide an effective and efficient first response Tier 1 HELP! Line information and advice service (comprising telephone and online enquiries received by email and the website) for disabled people as part of the HELP! For Disabled People project working to agreed organisational standards and ensuring that all targets and outcomes are met. To provide high quality, impartial information and advice to clients which complies with MATRIX and other organisational standards supporting and empowering them to address presenting issues relating to housing, welfare, debt, personal budgets, health, employment, access to statutory services, discrimination and social exclusion. To assess clients requiring access to Tier 2 (more complex casework) and Tier 3 (personal and life skills learning and development) and (peer mentoring and social activities) support and refer these cases on to other Team members as appropriate. To ensure that the information and advice service stays abreast of latest disability related legislation and policy guidance. To develop DRC’s on-line information resources and ensure these are kept up-to-date and continue to meet the needs of project beneficiaries. To induct, train and supervise the HELP! for Disabled People volunteers – including those engaged to assist with the delivery of Tier 1 HELP! Line basic information support in line with DRC’s Volunteer Policy and Procedures . To maintain accurate and up-to-date beneficiary records and statistics for the Tier 1 HELP! Line service and assist with the production of management information and other reports as and when required to the Head of Operations, Chief Executive, Board of Directors and project funders. Working with the Team, to develop and maintain positive working relationships and referral procedures with relevant statutory and specialist third sector providers to achieve positive outcomes for disabled people. Working with the Team to encourage and enable disabled people to be actively involved in the planning and delivery of the HELP ! for Disabled People project. Working with the Team, to support the delivery of weekly outreach sessions which incorporate information, advice and advocacy provision. To be aware of and comply with DRC’s policies and procedures including health and safety, data protection and security and equal opportunities. To ensure your own continuing professional development by attending relevant meetings, conferences and seminars, undergoing training, and by any other appropriate means. To work effectively as part of the team and be flexible and responsive to changing funder needs and DRC requirements. To undertake any other duties as and when required commensurate with the nature and grading of the post. The post holder will come into contact with vulnerable adults and will, therefore, be subject to a disclosure check at an enhanced level prior to confirmation of employment. EXPERIENCE Proven track record of providing accurate and up-to-date information and advice to enquirers on a range of issues including housing, welfare, debt, personal budgets, health, employment, discrimination and access to statutory services Proven track record of supporting socially excluded clients to access a range of services Proven track record of meeting targets and working to deadlines Proven track record of networking and undertaking outreach work. Previous experience of supervising and supporting others (i.e. volunteers). Evidence of ability to organise successful events.
