EDUCATION COMMITTEE
A. COMPOSITION
1) Chairperson – Appointed by the Board of Directors to serve a three (3) year term to coincide with
the President.
2) Members – Recommend a minimum of six (6) members to include the chairperson and one
representative from each District interested in research and education. Serve for a three (3) year
term.
3) A member of this committee shall serve as ex-officio member of the Practice Committee.
4) The chair of the Exhibits Committee will serve on the Education Committee.
5) Director-at-Large of Education is the Board Liaison.
B. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
Education of the Chapter membership, rather than the public shall be the prime purpose of this
committee. The Education Committee shall be responsible for the Chapter’s Research Grant Awards
(BIZ May 1992)
C. GENERAL DUTIES:
1 Prepares reports on the activities of this Committee for all Chapter Board and Business Meetings
and submits to the Chapter board Liaison (Director-at-Large of Education) prior to the meeting.
2) Submit a budget request annually based on the Chapter’s Strategic Planning Document and
maintain a record of expenses for this committee.
3) Notify the Chapter President and Executive Director of each scheduled Committee Meeting and
sends a copy of the Minutes from the meeting to the President and Executive Director.
4) Recruit speakers for spring and fall continuing education workshops that will meet the special
needs of the Chapter membership.
5) Plan and arrange for consultation services to develop physical therapy educational programs within
the state (both therapist and assistant programs): act as consultant in issues related to upward
mobility of physical therapist assistants and aides.
6) In conjunction with the Legislative, Public Relations and Practice Committee, plan to meet the
overall responsibilities of the Chapter to the supportive personnel in physical therapy.
7) Cooperate with the Legislative Committee pertaining to national and state legislation affecting
financial assistance to physical therapy education in North Carolina.
8) Cooperate with the Consultant, Department of Educational Affairs (APTA) in matters pertinent to
the development of the profession of physical therapy.
9) Cooperate with the Foundation for Physical therapy Campaign Chairman and act as NCPTA
Campaign representative. (Chapter Council 12-3-83)

E. APPLICABLE POLICIES: (See General Duties #9)
1. RESEARCH GRANT AWARD:
A. Notify North Carolina Physical Therapy Educational Programs (PT & PTA) of available
funds for research aid and determine the manner in which the student research grants
shall be awarded or total amount to be given to all recipients in one year in order to place
emphasis on support of high quality research rather than on any other consideration.
B. Notification to NC PT & PTA Educational Programs of available research funds:
1. Letter of explanation and application will be sent May 1 to the Education
Programs
2. Application deadline will be October 15th
3. The committee will make a decision and notify the students by November 15th
C. The Education Committee shall budget annually a specific amount of money to be
awarded to students for support of research projects. The total amount of money to be
awarded will be decided annually, based upon previous student requests and the
financial status of the Chapter, and will be approved by the membership as part of the
annual budget. The amount shall be no less than $400. (Chapter Business Mtg. 10-0881) (Moved 1/5/07 from Membership Committee).
