Bern Music Parents SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY CONTEST
SCHOOL YEAR 2012-13
The Music Parents of Bern School have established the Bern Music Parents Scholarship
Essay Contest to celebrate the Final year of Bern High School. The available scholarships will be awarded to the top entries chosen by the judges.
1.
Open to any senior who will graduate in May 2012 from Bern High School and will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall, or any college student who graduated from Bern High School in 2011, 2010 or 2009 and is currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
2.
The application will include in this order:

The Application Cover Letter

A list of Participation in Fine Arts using the form provided including: 1.) School
Activities involving Fine Arts 2.) Community Activities involving Fine Arts 3.)
Honors and Recognition involving Fine Arts (Examples of Fine Arts include
Band, Choir, Plays, Forensics, Dance, etc.)

The Essay

The essay must conform to the following rules: a.
Be based on the topic:
Fine Arts in the Bern School and Community b.
Be a minimum of 500 words; c.
Be typewritten, double spaced, on standard 8 1/2” x 11” paper;
4.
Submit completed application and essay before April 16 th , 2012.

The Scholarship must be used to attend any accredited university, college, or
Junior college. Scholarship funds will be sent to the winning recipient’s school of choice.
The winner will be determined based on the following criteria:
1. The Essay a.
70%
Adherence to accepted rules of writing, grammar, and punctuation. b.
Originality and development of topic.
2. The Contestant’s history of participation in Fine Arts 30%
3. The selection committee will consist of current Music Parent Officers, one past
Music Parent officer and 2 Bern High School Faculty Members. (The identity of the applicant will be anonymous to the committee – only the essay and Fine Arts
Participation page will be presented to the committee).
