About Chisinau, Moldova
Republic of Moldova is a piece of land with a rich history, picturesque landscape and
generous climate. Its total area is of 33,843 sq. km. The hilly steppes in the north, the
woods in the center of the country (Codrii Moldovei), the plain in the south (Bugeac
Plain), the main rivers: Nistru, Prut, and Raut and of course its kind and welcoming
people make our country a green, joyful and memorable state.
Chisinau is a significant administrative, political, economic, scientific and cultural
centre of the country. The city is located on seven hills and stretched over 120 sq. km.
It is divided into 5 sectors. The Centre of the city comprises the most important
political and cultural locations.
The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, the Government of the country, the
Parliament, the Central Park and the National Opera House are situated along the
Stefan cel Mare Avenue. On adjacent streets one can visit museums, theatres, hotels
and other interesting sites.
Meeting Venue:
The Team of International Consultants and National Facilitators will be placed at the
National Centre for Health Management, Cosmescu 3, located not far from the center
of Chisinau and close to the Ministry of Health. The Secretariat of the National
Coordination Council is located within the same premises. The meeting venue will be
equipped with Internet Connection.

Visas: Most nationalities do not require visa for Moldova.
The citizens of the following states, the holders of all the types of passports, do not
need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for a period of
stay until 90 days, during six months from the moment of the first entry:
1. the following member states of the European Union - Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria,
Czechia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy,
Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland, Holland, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain,
Sweden;

2. Canada, Georgia, Holy See, Iceland, Japan, Principality of Andorra, Principality of
Monaco, Principality of Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, State of Israel, Swiss
Confederation, USA, Georgia;
3. CIS member states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia,
Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The holders of the UN Laissez-Passer passports issued by the UN and its specialized
agencies do not need visas for the entry on and exit from the territory of the Republic
of Moldova.
The holders of the diplomatic and service passports, who are citizens of the following
states do not need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for
the period up to 90 days during 6 months.
- Albania, Bosnia and Hertzegovina, Brasil, Croatia, Macedonia, Muntenegru, Serbia,
Turkey, Vietnam.
The holders of the diplomatic and service passports, who are citizens of the following
states do not need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for
the period up to 30 days:
- China, Iran, Turkmenistan.
The staff of the diplomatic and consular missions accredited to the Republic of Moldova
and the family members thereof, the staff of the permanent missions and the
representative offices of the international organizations situated in the Republic of
Moldova and the family members thereof, foreign mass-media representatives
accredited to the Republic of Moldova and that hold the accreditation cards issued by
the MFA, are entitled to enter and leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova
without holding a visa during the whole validity period of the accreditation card.
The following categories of citizens of Turkmenistan do not need a visa for entry on the
territory of the Republic of Moldova:
a. members of the aircraft crew of the civil aviation, holders of national valid passports,
having the required inscription into the general statement (air mission);
b. members of the crew of the river and maritime ships, holders of valid sailor passports
and having the required inscription into the logbook or an extract of it;
c. railway members, members of train, refrigerator and locomotive crews in
international trains, holders of national valid passports, having the nominal lists,
roadmaps, approved for each route;
d. special couriers, which facilitate the intergovernmental communication, holders of
the national valid passports and having the required documents, issued by the
competent authorities of the Parts.

Taking into account the provisions of the Law no.200 of July 16, 2010 concerning the
foreigner’s regime in the Republic of Moldova, which has to enter into force
December 24, 2010, foreign citizens, holders of a valid permanent residence permit,
issued by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, are exempted from the visa
requirement.
Language in Moldova
According to the constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the state language in
Moldova is Moldavian (identical to Romanian), functioning on the Latin alphabet
basis. Russian along with Moldavian is used as a communication language among
different nations. The greatest majority of young people will speak English.
Climate
The Republic of Moldova is located in a zone with a temperate continental climate. In
June -July the average temperature is +25 to + 35 0C. The air is very humid.
Security/Tracking and Transportation
Currently the situation in Chisinau is stable, however it is recommended to avoid places
where large groups of people congregate and to keep the ID on you at all times. To avoid
petty thefts, please employ reasonable caution in public places, particularly public
transportation and shopping malls. Please do not leave your luggage and/or personal
belongings unattended in public places to avoid theft or loss. It is safe to use taxi services
and buses but it is desirable to use specialized taxi services, usually the cars from
specialized taxi services carry 4-digit phone numbers on the top.

The city transport is made up of small city buses and trolleybuses. City buses are more
flexible and can make a stop in any place upon request. Trolleybuses usually make stops
at authorized stations. The average price for the ticket is $ 0,25 USD regardless the
distance.
Each of the Consultant will be assigned a car for the duration of stay in Moldova to

pick you up in the morning and to ensure transportation to and from the venues of
the meetings.
Airport Transfer:
Transportation services from/to the International Airport will be arranged by the
Ministry of Health. Kindly inform us about your flight itinerary in order to arrange
the car transport for you.
Dress code:
Culturally it is recommended for official meetings the Business casual dress code
Currency:
The local currency is Moldovan Lei. June 2011 exchange rate is US$ 1= 11.33 MDL.,
Euro 1 = 16,27. The greatest majority of hotels and shops are accepting Visa Electron
and Master Cards. Please note that you can extract money from the bank machines on
the streets in local currency only. Useful link for currency: www.curs.md.
Preparation Phase for the Meeting:
Each International Consultant has been assigned a National Facilitator to support the
Joint Assessment Process.
Communication:
Each International Consultant will receive a phone and a local phone number with
unlimited amount of minutes restricted to local mobile phone calls and national
landline phone calls. This should facilitate communication between International
Consultants and the negotiations with the Local Facilitators, the members of the
JAOB and with all national stakeholders. We shall incorporate all useful phone
numbers into your phone and you will receive the phone at the airport. We shall also
provide you with a list of key stakeholders, phone numbers and contact details should
you need to seek for additional clarifications.

Meals and Food:
Moldova is rich in national cuisine, mainly consisting of vegetables and meat, but all types of
food is served in all restaurants. There are some restaurants in Chisinau with Chinese,
Turkish and Japanese food as well.
