www.cleanup.org.au/PDF/au/cua_plastic_recycling_fact_sheet.pdf
Worksheet: Plastics
Worksheet: Recycling bingo
Information on which plastics are collected for recycling in your area
(available from www.RecyclingNearYou.com.au or you local council)
Collection of at least 15 items made of different types of plastic
Activity Description
1. Distribute the plastics worksheet and the Clean Up Australia handout.
2. Students read the handout and answer the questions on the worksheet. You
will need to have current information about what plastics are recyclable in
your area. This information can be found at www.RecyclingNearYou.com.au
or from the local council. For many years only plastics 1 and 2 were collected.
A significant number of municipalities have extended that to all seven plastic
types.
3. Play a game of “Recycling Bingo”. Divide students into teams of 2 or 3. Give
each group a copy of recycling bingo worksheet (note that there are five
different versions of the worksheet, each with a different bingo card).
Randomly select one of the 15 plastic items. Students must work out which
plastic number it is, cross off this number on the bingo card, and write below
the number what the example was (e.g. yoghurt container). They can only
use each item once (e.g. if they they three number sixes on their bingo card,
they can only cross off one for the yoghurt container and must wait for other
items to cross off the rest). When they have crossed off a whole row or a

whole column they call bingo. You may want to play the game a number of
times – get students to write on the same bingo card again in a different
colour.
