Program Description
This course is designed for all staff responsible for coding outpatient surgery encounters with emphasis on codes 10021-69990.
Participants should have attended Basic CPT, and/or have experience in CPT/HCPCS coding.
Who Should Attend
Director HIM, CPT/HCPCS Coders, HIM/MR Coders, APC Coordinators, staff who code outpatient surgery encounters, General
Surgery Office practice coders and Surgery Center coders.
Continuing Education Credit
Participants will receive, upon completion of workshop, a certificate documenting the completed continuing education/clock hours.

Discuss coding, structure, format and assignment for specific codes 10021-69990.
Read and interpret health information documentation to identify all conditions that affect the assignment of
appropriate codes.
Debridement
Discuss current CPT/HCPCS coding guidelines to assign appropriate codes.
Explain current National Correct Coding Initiatives and CMS Modified Guidelines to assign appropriate codes.
Describe APC reimbursement methodology as it applies to surgical coding, including status indicators, packaging and
modifier assignment.
Wound Care
Medical Necessity
Discuss the reimbursement methodology of Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) groups.
Discuss the impact of modifiers, informational or payment on reimbursement.

Jean Ann Hartzell-Minzey, RHIA, CPC, Senior Educator/Consultant, Healthcare Education Strategies, Inc. is widely
recognized as a pioneer in the field of health information and medical records. For 25 years she has worked with physicians, hospitals
and health information professionals as an educator, lecturer and administrator. She has extensive experience in physician practice
management including billing, coding, reimbursement methodologies, documentation and third party contract negotiations. As an
educator, she has presented over 3,300 technical workshops in CPT and ICD 9 CM Coding, reimbursement and medical record-health
information management. Jean Ann is a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the National
Association of Quality Assurance Professionals, the American Academy of Professional Coders and the Louisiana Health Information
Management Association. She has worked extensively with Louisiana hospitals in APC implementation.
Registration Information
This seminar will be conducted at the Louisiana Hospital Association Conference Center, 9521 Brookline Avenue, Baton Rouge.
The fee of $175.00 for member hospitals/per person and $275.00 for non-member hospitals/per person includes seminar, printed
materials, lunch and refreshment breaks. A corporate rate has been established at the Holiday Inn-South, 9940 Airline Highway,
(225) 924-7021. Please call the hotel directly and ask for the room rate of the Louisiana Hospital Association for the appropriate
dates. Registrations may be mailed or faxed directly to the Louisiana Hospital Association. Registrations that are mailed must include
payment by check or credit card. Visa, MasterCard or American Express is accepted. You may also fax your registration form to (225) 9231004, with a Visa, MasterCard or American Express number. Registrations by fax will be accepted if method of payment is indicated on
registration form (check being mailed, etc.). Attendance is limited to 40 registrants. A minimum of 25 registrants is required. In
