Required Horse Care
1. The horse must have annuals shots (Eastern/ Western, Tetanus, Influenza, Rabies
and West Nile at a minimum). Consult with your veterinarian.
2. The horse should get daily dewormer of be dewormed quarterly on a rotation basis;
unless otherwise indicated by your vet.
3. The horse must have daily turnout of at least 8 hours unless of inclement weather.
4. In the event the adopted horse is injured or becomes ill, Beech Brook Farm
should be notified via phone call or email in the event that the injury requires
euthanasia. The adopter will, within 48 hrs, sent BBFER, via email or mail, the vet
records pertaining to the circumstances for the horse to be euthanized.
5. The horses feet should be trimmed or shod by a qualified farrier at least every 8
weeks.
6. Each horse must receive daily feed at least two times a day representing 1-3% of
their body weight unless otherwise advised by a vet. Exact amount will vary depending
on body score. Preferred food is natural pasture or hay with supplemental feeds as
needed for level of work.

7. Each horse must have fresh water at all time in buckets or regularly cleaned troughs.
A stagnant pond is not suitable for horse water.
8. The adopted horse must have their teeth checked and floated (if needed) annually.
9. Miniature horses should not hold more than 50 pounds of body weight.
10. The adopted horse must have turnout in excess of 20 x 50 feet. Ideally a larger
turnout area is provided.
11. The horse must have at least a 3-sided shed in the paddock to block wind and bad
weather.
12. No barb wire is allowed for horse enclosures.
13. Adopter agrees to contact Beech Brook Farm if horse dies or is moved to another
residence. Notification must be made within 48 hrs of the horse’s death or move. If
the horse has died, vet records pertaining to his death will be sent, via email or mail, to
BBFER with 48 hours.
14. Adopter agrees and understands that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is an
adopted horse to be sold at a Live stock auction or to Slaughter. If adopter can no
longer care for the adopted horse or plans to sell the horse, Beech Brook Farm is to be
contacted for first right of refusal and horse will be returned to Beech Brook Farm at
no charge to Beech Brook Farm. .If Beech Brook Farm cannot immediately take the
horse due to space limitations you will agree to give Beech Brook Farm at least 3
months to try to find space and if at that time Beech Brook Farm still does not have
space you can work to place the horse. However, if you sell the horse after Beech
Brook agrees to this due inadequate space/finances to take back said equine, it is
understood that the contract you signed upon adoption will transfer to the buyer and that
a copy of the transferred contract will be provided to Beech Brook Farm with 48 hours of
sale. In the event that you sell the horse without contacting Beech Brook Farm for first
right of refusal, Beech Brook Farm can take the horse back from the party the horse
was sold to at any time.

15. Will you agree to Beech Brook Farm Equine Rescue requirements that a

horse/pony be submitted to Beech Brook Farm Equine Rescue every year for three (3)

17. Concurrent with the signature on this agreement, Adopter has paid a non-refundable
adoption donation in the amount of ____________________ dollars. Payment in full for
the total adoption donation of _____________________ dollars must be paid before
removal of the adopted equine from Beech Brook Farm. In the event that the adopter
decides to forgo adoption of said horse after making the deposit, they will lose their
deposit and any other monies paid up to that point.
18. Beech Brook Farm has disclosed all information relative to the horses history and
health as they know it. To the best of our knowledge said horse is in good physical
health and has no medical or behavioral issues/conditions unless noted.

NOTE: Depending on described behavioral issues it is advised that appropriate
measures be taken to ensure others are aware of disclosed behaviors and that
appropriate safety measures are incorporated into daily handling and training to
avoid exposing others to a horse that may have behavioral issues that need
additional remediation.

19. Beech Brook Farm holds the right to recover the horse(s) if ever abused,
abandoned, neglected, starved or mistreated in any way or if there is a violation of the
agreed contract. Adopter will pay for or reimburse BBF for transportation fees. The
adopter agrees to abide by the level of care rules set forth or the horse can and will be
recovered by Beech Brook Farm at any time.
20.The adopter agrees to these rules as indicated by signature below and has read and
understood the conditions of the Adoption contract and agrees to uphold and provide a
loving home for the adopted horse(s)

23. In all respects this Agreement will be governed by, and construed in accordance with,
the substantive laws of the State of Connecticut without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any claim or action brought by one of the Parties hereto in connection with this Agreement
shall be brought in the appropriate Federal or State court located in the County of
Connecticut, and the Parties hereto irrevocably consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of
such court.
24. If any of the above conditions are violated, the adopter will be subject to a fine of
($250) for each and every violation.
