CHW-3M1 Unit 3: Egypt Papadopoulos Legacies of Ancient Egypt Preamble: A legacy is defined as anything handed down from one generation to the next. For example, one particular legacy of ancient Mesopotamia was the art of writing...think of how significant this was to future civilizations/generations. What are some significant legacies of ancient Egypt? Project Outline Individually or in pairs, create a visual display (i.e science board/powerpoint or some other mode of delivery approved by the teacher) that illustrates the legacies of ancient Egypt. This will be presentedt to the class. Focus on the following areas of Egyptian history: - Government/politics Social Life/Culture Religion Architecture and Technology Economics Everyday life Expectations: 1. A variety of 10-15 examples minimum must be presented on the display. (events, developments - technological - social - political - cultural - economic - religious, personalities & people, etc.). 2. The organization of the display boards will be to your choosing. Just ensure that all of the areas above are covered adequately. Task Breakdown: This project will be broken down into three component tasks. 1. 2. 3. 1. Initial Task- group name(s), selection of group members. Research Task and Project Requirements- library and independent research Presentation Task- display information in-class. Initial Task a. Decide whether you will work individually or in pairs. b. Project Requirements: Below is a summary of the required sections in your presentation. Remember this is focusing on the LEGACIES of Egypt...so what you discuss needs to reflect this idea. a. Government/politics: influence of the pharaoh and their role in Egyptian life...provide examples of the accomplishments of any leaders etc. b. Social Life/Culture: anything from religion to art...from architecture to language...from technological innovations to academics. c. Economics: trade and the development social classes. d. Everyday life: the role of men and women in society... 3. Presentation Requirements: This part of the project is a culmination of all your hard work! The presentation will involve the following: a. This will either be a powerpoint or other visual presentation. b. Save your work on a CD, memory stick or the ‘G” drive at school. c. Make sure you maintain eye contact with your audience while presenting. Simply reading from the screen will cost you marks! Prepare ahead of time and use the material on the screen as a reference. d. A presentation scheduled will be determined once commitments have been made to either write the unit test or complete this assignment.
