Create a Visual Timeline of an Ancient Civilization
Reflect on any ancient civilizations, and images of great works of art, architecture, heroic
figures, and exotic cultures spring to mind. Review the history of past civilizations and
the rise and decline of empires and dynasties, and the impact of significant innovations,
inventions, and ideas play a prominent role. Your challenge is to create a visual time line
that captures the main eras of a civilization as well as major accomplishments in science
and technology, art and architecture, intellectual and religious thought, and military
conquests and defeats. Using vivid images, concise and informative captions, and a
creative layout and design that capture the essence of the civilizations, your time line
should provide a dramatic portrayal of the civilization studied.

Requirements
1. 2 to 3 pages of research notes, which focus on two of the subtopics listed above. The
notes must be drawn from at least 3 other sources other than your class notes and
textbook. These notes may be in point form, but you must indicate the source and page,
and reflect a sound understanding of the material. You must cite your sources
appropriately and include a bibliography.
2. Select a total of 10 key events or dates that relate to the subtopics researched and select
six to eight relevant pictures to accompany the dates chosen.
3. Write informative, concise captions for each of the key events selected.
4. Create a visual timeline that clearly indicates the dates, the important events and
pictures that illustrate that event. You will be evaluated on the use of design, layout and
colour as well as on the content.
