I. Course Description

Presentation and demonstration of anatomical positioning and adaptation for diagnostic imaging of body systems.

II. Course Objectives:

Student will:

1. identify normal anatomical structures of the skull, facial bones, temporal bones, sinuses, temporomandibular joints, mandible and urinary system on diagrams and radiographs;

2. describe the routine and optional projections for radiographic demonstration of the skull , facial bones, temporal bones, sinuses mandible and temporomandibular joints;

3. describe the routine and optional projections of the various radiographic investigations that are done to evaluate the urinary system;

4. describe the contrast media utilized for the various radiological investigations that are currently used in evaluating the urinary system;

5. describe the principles of paediatric, mobile, theatre, intensive care unit (ICU) and geriatric radiography;

6. describe the principles of patient management and imaging requirements during emergency radiography;

7. demonstrate mastery of the routine/optimal projections of the skull, facial bones, sinuses, mandible and temporomandibular joints by positioning each other and taking radiographs using a skull phantom;

8. critique radiographs of the skull, facial bones, sinuses, mandible, temporomandibular joints and of the urinary system;

9. explain the clinical application of conventional tomography/zonography of the urinary system

III. Course Content Outline:

1. Radiography of the skull, sella turcia and petrous pyramids.

2. Radiography of the facial bones, zygomatic arches, nasal bones.

3. Radiography of the mandible, Temporomandibular joints (Tmj), sinuses and temporal bones.

4. Radiography of the urinary system.

5. Clinical applications of tomography and zonography

6. Paediatric radiography.

7. Mobile radiography (Principles)

8. Theatre radiography (Principles).

9. Geriatric radiography (Principles)

10. Radiography in the I.C.U. (Principles)

11. Emergency radiography

IV. Evaluation Procedure

Determination of the final grade for this course will be based upon the following:
