5th September 2012 No. 1 AUTUMN TERM NEWSLETTER Dear Parent/Carer Class Name Changes This year the class names are changing – they will no longer be called ‘Class 1’ etc but each class will be named after a local bird species. The new names are as follows: Class 1 (Mrs Shore/Miss Richards) – Sparrow Class Class 2 (Ms McGovern) – Starling Class Class 3 (Mrs Chamberlain) – Woodpecker Class Class 4 (Ms Catcheside) – Owl Class The children will be finding out about their class bird over the next few days. Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the summer break and in particular the wonderful success of the Olympic Games. It truly has been a summer to remember and the excitement continues with the Paralympics this week. After such a great summer I am sure the children have been inspired to go for gold and I know the Autumn Term will turn out to be an exciting and fun experience for everyone. I would like to say a big welcome to our new children who have joined us in Reception and to those who have joined us from other schools - I know the children will make you feel very welcome. Crystal Project During the next two terms, all the primary schools in the Street and Glastonbury area will be taking part in The Crystal Project. The Crystal Project has been designed to help children develop positive behaviour so they can enjoy and get the most out of life and learning. The focus of the work will be centred on Years 2 & 5 but we hope that everyone in the school will benefit. The project will involve some training for teaching staff alongside a programme of positive parenting. Our hope is that by presenting children with a consistent message about how we would like them to behave, that they will understand more clearly how to form positive relationships with those around them, how to deal with difficult situations and how to manage their lives successfully. We hope you will join us in welcoming the Crystal Project to our school and get involved when the time comes! For further details please contact Mr Briar or Tracey Randall (Parent and Family Support Advisor) on 07557 481387. Here is our first newsletter of the school year with lots of important information and news of upcoming events… Sharing Assembly We will be holding our first sharing assembly of the school year on Friday 7th September at 2.30pm. Details of all of the clubs on offer in the Autumn Term will be sent home this week. Please make sure you return the preference slip promptly to avoid disappointment as some clubs are limited in numbers. Volunteers Needed! We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to help with school trips, reading etc. If you think you might be able to offer some time to support children with reading at school, please contact the office as soon as possible. Mums, Dads and Grandparents are all welcome! 1 Dates for your Diary: More Volunteers Needed! We are looking for some willing parent volunteers to help finish the roof on the roundhouse.
