It should be read in conjunction with the Performance Management documentation to provide the key impact and outcomes expected for the academic year ahead. Key Role Descriptors for this Post To have overall accountability for the progress achieved and standards attained by all students and staff within the Geography Department To ensure the development of sustainable Teaching and Learning that maximises individual progress, with particular emphasis on Business / Enterprise and Assessment for Learning activities. To have overall accountability for the monitoring, quality assurance, assessing and reporting of progress across the Department To be accountable for the learning environment including facilities, expenditure, health and safety, and effective deployment of resources across the geography department. Specific Postholder Expectations (a) Accountable for the impact on educational progress beyond assigned students Working with appropriate teachers in the college the postholder will: Identify appropriate attainment/achievement trends and targets Monitor student standards and progress against targets Monitor planning, curriculum coverage and learning outcomes Monitor standards of application and student behaviour Lead evaluation strategies to contribute to overall college self evaluation Plan and implement college improvement strategies where needs are identified Encourage student motivation and engagement in the college, developing positive responses to challenge and high expectations (b) Accountable for leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others Working with all appropriate teachers in the college the postholder will: Maintain personal expertise and share this with other teachers Act as a role model of professional practice for others, modelling effective strategies with them Monitor and evaluate standards of teaching identifying and disseminating best practice, areas for improvement and support strategies Induct support and monitor all new staff as appropriate Act as performance management team leader for identified staff Co-ordinate CPD needs and opportunities (c) Accountable for student development across the curriculum Working with other relevant teachers in the college the postholder will: Identify relevant college improvement issues Define and agree appropriate improvement targets Evaluate the impact of all improvement activities on the quality of learning and standards Build effective links with the community, especially business, in order to develop curriculum engagement (d) Accountable directly for the line management of significant number of staff Ensure that performance management policy and practice is discharged fully by self and other leaders Monitor the impact and effectiveness of PM arrangements within the college Monitor and evaluate the contribution and impact of other staff to improvement across the college Plan the effective deployment of staff expertise to achieve college improvement outcomes Contribute to the pastoral care and welfare of all staff This job description agreed by ………………………………………………….. postholder ………………………………………………….. line manager date ………………………………….
