She engages audiences with her strong, multi-octave voice, rhythmic virtuosity and powerful storytelling style. Reeves combines all her influences to create a jazz-world-pop-bop synthesis that the Boston Globe calls “breathtaking.” “Her three-plus octaves, diva-like delivery and intimate sense of a song have long made her one of the most compelling vocalists in jazz.” ― Seattle Times Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour 55th Anniversary Celebration – January 14, 2013 Featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Ambrose Akinmusire, Chris Potter, Benny Green, and Lewis Nash The world-renowned Monterey Jazz Festival is famous for its artistic excellence, sophisticated informality, and longstanding mission to create and support jazz education and performance. Highlighting the Festival’s unique attitude and jazz-with-a-purpose energy, the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour celebrates its 55th anniversary with an all-star band consisting of bassist and musical director Christian McBride, vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, saxophonist Chris Potter, trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, pianist Benny Green, and drummer Lewis Nash performing an assortment of classic jazz repertoire and original compositions by band members. “This is a full-service, style-inclusive festival—still the best in the West and probably the best American festival overall…” – JazzTimes Brad Mehldau Trio and The Bad Plus – May 3, 2013 Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau is known for his improvisatory genius, whether playing his own stunning compositions, Thelonious Monk classics, American Songbook standards, or more contemporary tunes by Nick Drake, Radiohead or the Beatles for an effect that is often like controlled chaos. The Bad Plus have broken down the walls of jazz convention and created an uncompromising body of work. Their personal brand of avant-garde populism has put them at the forefront of a new instrumental music movement, drawing audiences both traditional and mainstream. “Inside the music of Brad Mehldau is a conflict among rock, jazz and classical personalities. Ultimately, the pianist has figured a way to integrate all three pretty seamlessly.” ― The Philadelphia Enquirer “If the Coen Brothers put together a jazz trio, perhaps it would be like [the Bad Plus], the comic and the dramatic rolled together.” — The Guardian Jazz at the Lobero subscriptions are available now at Lobero.com or by calling 805-963-0761.
