COURSE OBJECTIVES: Bio 101 and 102 is a two semester course designed to give the student a basic understanding of the anatomy, organization and function of the human body. To assist the student in mastering the subject matter, there will be introductory lectures on the basic concepts of biochemistry and cell biology before the major topics of the course are dealt with. These topics include the basic organization of the human body; muscle and bone; the nervous system (including the special senses); the cardiovascular system; respiration; digestion; metabolism; excretion; fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance; the endocrine system; reproduction and genetics. The subject matter will be related to relevant questions of clinical or health-related importance. IV. EXAMINATION There will be bi-weekly exams of equal credit of 100 points. One of the seven exams with the lowest points will be dropped. Credits earned from lecture contribute 85% of your total credit for the class and points earned from lab section make up the other 15%. Self-study may be assigned as extra credits. There will be no makeup tests except under extenuating circumstances (written document needed to back up your story) and absolutely no make up for lab exams under any circumstances. V. Academic Support Center for Academic Success and First-Year Experience provides assistance and support for all students.
