Describe briefly on the back of this form your work as a feminist scholar or interest in gender and feminist
studies.
 Interdisciplinary academic course work in Women’s Studies at Duke or elsewhere, at the
graduate or undergraduate level. (This course work need not necessarily have resulted in a
major, a minor or a certificate.)
 Research foci on women, gender or feminist theories as a prelim or dissertation area
 Teaching that involves women, gender, or feminist theories or pedagogies
 Feminist advocacy or service (in communities outside Duke, in a student’s department, or
university committees, or in non-departmental organizations for at least one academic year).
Please note: Because the departments and disciplines in which Women’s Studies graduate students work
are so different from one another, we recognize the need to be flexible regarding individual applications to
the program. This is particularly true for the applicants outside the humanities departments, which may not
afford graduate students many opportunities to pursue feminist scholarship in the classroom.
