Ludvigson Stock Farms Sale Footnotes Spring 2010
Lot 1 – 9209W
~LSF Entrepreneur 9209W is sired by our in house herd sire, Enterprise and is out of a
full sister to the $46,000 LSF Combination. 9209W ranks in the top 25% for birth
weight, the top 1/3 for yearling weight, the top 11% for milk, the top 9% for heifer
pregnancy, the top 8% for calving ease maternal and the top 3% for marbling. The dam
maintains a 100 MPPA. This big stud posted over a 700 lb weaning weight, 1250 lb
yearling weight and scanned off the charts! Big time herdbull prospect to lead this sale
off.
Lot 2 – 9534W
~What a spread! 9534W might have started behind, with a 98 BW ratio, but as soon as
he was out of the gate, he absolutely floored it. He finished ahead of the pack at weaning
with a 109 ratio. He kept it wide open after weaning, to finish in front with a 113 YW
ratio. But the antagonistic trait spreading didn’t stop there, and 9534W went on to score
ratios of 112 IMF and 103 REA. His EPDs are just as impressive, with top 9% WW, 1%
YW, 16% MK, 7% TM, 2% HPG, and 6% CEM. All that, combined with a top 28%
CED and just above breed average BW and ME, is an incredible feat. The outstanding
Mimi x 32AA dam posts a 103.6 MPPA, 105 WW, and 108 YW ratios on 4 progeny.
Lot 3 – 9608W
~The Sting has the 13th highest IMF score and 6th highest REA in this year’s performance
packed sale. He is the lone bull in the sale to combine this high of both IMF and REA.
These scores give him well earned EPDs that rank in the top 7% MB and 3% REA. That
is definitely spreading the carcass antagonisms. The Sting is one of the most eye
appealing bulls in the event today. The very moderate dam excelled at REA as a yearling
heifer by attaining a 104 REA ratio. She combines the big spread bull Canyon Classic on
a heifer we purchased at Leachman Cattle Company’s last sale, where she scored the
second largest REA of all the Red Angus heifers with a 12.44 REA and a 120 ratio.
Lot 4 – 9606W
~Color of Money has one of the best performance spreads in this year’s event. He goes
from a 98 BW ratio to 110 WW and 106 YW ratios. This comes as no surprise, since his
dam, the $15,000 LSF COVERGIRL LA414 P4046, is one of the top cows in the entire
breed. She ranks in the top 6% of the breed on eight traits, along with having a ME of
only 2. She has a 365 day calving interval, which includes being flushed once and being
bred afterwards. This cow is the absolute epitome of easy keeping. Not enough can be
said of the sire, the $19,000 NSF ICON P532. It was overheard during the 2009 Spring
sale that the Icon bulls were the best Red Angus sire group to sale last year.
Lot 5 – 9605W
~Take a look at the meat machine that we have here. You have to love the length,
muscle, depth of body, and overall appearance of this bull. It’s not often that you find a
bull this thick, with a 4.4 IMF and .15 BFAT score. Butch has some pretty big hooves to
fill, with his two maternal brothers being the $15,000 Ranch Hand, who has progeny in
this sale, and the $6,500 Farm Hand. I don’t like to make excuses for cows, but I believe
Butch could have weaned off heavier, but his mother injured herself and did adversely
affect his weaning weight. The dam is from one of the highest performing cow families
from Neo Sho Farms, and is backed by 3 dams with MPPAs of 109, 109, and 105.
Lot 6 – 9602W
~The name of the game in the cattle industry is consistency and predictability. The dam
of Cool Hand Luke, LA409, conveys this more than any Red Angus cow I’ve seen.
Since purchasing her at the Leachman dispersal, she has had 6 calves, all bulls
unfortunately, with ratios of 97 BW, 107 WW, and 103 YW to give her a 105.9 MPPA.
Every one of her calves has been designated a herd bull in our annual sale. LA409 also
has a 353 day calving interval. Yes, that is 2 calves each year! Her offspring also
perform well on carcass, with 3.89 IMF and 13.73 REA averages. If you could use
consistency and predictability in your herd, you had better not miss Cool Hand Luke.
Lot 7 – 9076W
~LSF Meat packer 9076W puts a great package together for optimal genetics combining
Packer with Chateau. 9076W ranks in the top 20% for weaning weight and yearling
weight, the top 1/3 for milk, the top half for maintenance, the top 9% for heifer
pregnancy, the top 13% for calving ease maternal, the top half for stayability, the top
30% for marbling and the top 23% for ribeye. This superior bull packs a 106 weaning
ratio. This stout herdbull prospect blew the field away with a 112 yearling ratio and a
123 ribeye ratio!
Lot 8 – 9911W
~LSF Grand Packer 9911W is sired by the Genex sire lineup star, Packer and comes from
the very well known Crystal cow family. 9911W ranks in the top half for calving ease,

maintenance, the top 3% for heifer pregnancy, the top half for calving ease maternal, the
top half for stayability, the top half for marbling and the top 9% for ribeye. This
incredible individual posted only a 76 lb BW but raced to almost an 800 lb WW and
recorded over a 1300 lb YW and over a 5 IMF!
Lot 9 – 9200W
~LSF Expected 9200W comes from our ET program sired by the big spread Expectation

top 22% for weaning weight, the top 10% for yearling weight, the top 16% for milk, the
top 3% for heifer pregnancy, the top half for calving ease maternal, the top 3% for
marbling and the top 23% for ribeye. The dam records a 100 MPPA. This good looking
bull scanned over a 12 inch ribeye and 4.5 IMF.
Lot 10 – 8900U
~LSF Strictly Business 8900U is sired by our homegrown calving ease bull Enterprise
and out of a Big Sky daughter. The dam did an exceptional job her first time out with
this stout calving ease bull that posted a 61 lb birth weight and a 700 lb weaning weight.
This bull packs low birth with milk without sacrificing maintenance or carcass. A strong
maternal candidate that will produce beautiful daughters that are low to the ground and
have all the depth in the world.
Lot 11 – 9210W
~LSF Brass Pack 9210W is sire by optimal herd sire, Packer and comes from one of our
favorite cow families, the Della Cow family. The dam maintains a 100 MPPA and is one
of our best donor females. 9210W ranks in the top half for birth weight, the top 22% for
weaning weight and yearling weight, the top 1% for heifer pregnancy, the top 20% for
marbling and the top 17% for ribeye. Excellent herd bull prospect that will transmit that
“look” that always stands out.
Lot 12 – 9228W
~LSF Packer 9228W is a full brother to lot 11 sired by Packer and comes from one of our
favorite cow families, the Della Cow family. The dam is one of the most complete
females that we own and maintains a 100 MPPA. 9228W ranks in the top half for birth
weight, the top 22% for weaning weight and yearling weight, the top 1% for heifer
pregnancy, the top 20% for marbling and the top 17% for ribeye. These two herdbull
prospects are like “peas” in a pod and you can mix and match as you like.
Lot 13 – 9562W
~What an impressive set of performance figures on this grandson of Grand Slam, the
$32,000 Genex lineup bull. 9562W ranks in the top 5% WW, 2% YW, 7% MK, and 2%
TM. His actual performance figures are exceptional as well, with his 112 WW and 113
YW ratios. What may be most impressive is that he does all of this with his breed
average ME. This guy also has very impressive carcass numbers. His 5.63 IMF score,
with a 138 ratio, is the fifth highest IMF in the sale today. 9562W gets it done on REA as
well, receiving an outstanding 106 ratio. The dam is certainly off to a great start, posting
a super 104.8 MPPA.
Lot 14 – 9046W
~LSF Smart Pack 9046W is sired by Genex all around balanced bull, Packer and comes
from the Crystal cow family. The Big Sky x Top Brass bred dam sports a 102 MPPA and
this bull reported a 105 weaning ratio. 9046W ranks in the top 15% for calving ease, the
top 1/3 for weaning weight and yearling weight, the top 10% for milk, the top 2% for
heifer pregnancy, the top half for stayability, the top 13% for marbling and the top 37%

can “fit” any program.
Lot 15 – 9006W

Classic x Chateau x Logan 210 bred female. The dam really hit a homerun her first time
posting a 96 birth ratio and a 104 weaning ratio on this bull, giving her a 102 MPPA.
9006W ranks in the top 20% of the breed for birth weight, weaning weight and yearling
weight, while being in the top 5% for milk and heifer pregnancy, and the top 20% for
stayability, marbling and ribeye. A very optimal bull for all traits.
Lot 16 – 9224W
~LSF Easy Sky 9224W comes from the Della cow family and is sired by the $42,000 Big
Sky herd bull. 9224W ranks in the top 27% for birth weight, the top half for weaning
weight and yearling weight, the top 22% for milk, the top 2% for heifer pregnancy and
the top 13% for marbling. The dam is a beautiful daughter of Top Brass and is a
perennial favorite by visitors to the farm. This calving ease sire posted over a 1200 lb
yearling weight and was high marbling bull with over a 5.8 IMF.
Lot 17 – 9617W
~What a performance spread this bull has achieved, going from a 74# BW to 105 ratios
for both weaning and yearling weights. Andrew has quite a set of EPDs as well with top
rankings of 4% WW, 3% YW, 15% TM, and 2% HPG. Who says you that you will loose
fertility as growth and milk increases? The dam is off to a great start, and with this calf
records a 102 MPPA. Her success really comes as no surprise when one looks at the
dams stacked in her pedigree. Her dam posts a 102.9 MPPA, grand dam a 105.8, great
grand dam 102, great great grand dam 103.1, and great great great grand dam a 102.1.
Would you rather use genetics like this, or bulls backed up by mediocre cows?
Lot 18 – 9506W
~If you need pounds and carcass traits you do not want to pass up this pound maker.
Check out his top 1% ranking on WW and 2% YW, along with his actual performance
ratios of 115 WW and 105 YW. This bull also blows apart the carcass antagonisms with
an incredible 118 IMF ratio and a 108 REA ratio. Add this to a ME of 2, and top 2%
HPG, and you have what cattlemen seek, which is high-performance, low-input cattle,
with high fertility. Behind great bulls there tends to be great dams. This dam is a great
one and she’s cranking out the performance with a 110 WW ratio and a 107 YW ratio on
her progeny. This kind of performance has earned the dam a 107.5 MPPA.
