Average - £191.00

A tremendous trade with the medium calves and smaller heifers particularly stronger on the week.

Friesian (31): A shorter entry topping at £130 for G J & M Vigar-Smith, £110 for B Gough. Best £95+, mediums £68-£75, smaller calves £35-£45 a few plainer sorts £15-£25. Messrs T T & H Barber consigned May born Friesian bulls at £242 per head.

Native Breeds (16): Hereford bulls sold to £280 and £250 for P J Mabritch,

Angus bulls to £250 from A Webb and £240 from E J Webb & Son, best

£200+, mediums strong at £180+. Young Hereford heifers reached £195 and

£172, Angus heifers to £162 and £170 for E J Webb & Son.

Charolais (2): Double the entry for this breed this week, bulls to £318, heifers to £245 for Lodge Farm Ltd.

Simmental (7): Short entry – very strong trade - £320 the lowest price, top

£388 for F D J Bennett & Son, average £350, heifers topped at £245 for M A

Maslin average £242.

Limousin/Blonde (13): A good trade saw Blonde bulls twice to £240,

Limousin to £265 for R c Ponting & Son – Average £245. Heifers well sold to achieve £222 for J W Cook. Best £200+, average £195.

British Blues (5): Tremendous trade. Top £370 for R T & E B Townsend,

£350 for Robert Oughton, £320 John Millard. Only 2 heifers that sold to £265 for R Oughton. T T & H Barber consigned June/July Blue bulls to reach £475.

Heifers of a similar age at £380.

A run of Pedigree Beef Shorthorn Cow with Aberdeen Angus x calves met a flying trade with bull calves to £1420 & £1350 & heifer calves to £1180 &

£1100 from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. Simmental stock bulls sold to £1010 from

Mr S Topham, Apperley. 4 incalf Friesian dairy heifers sold to £1350 & £1320 from M/s J Jones & Sons, Down Hatherley

548 STORE CATTLE

A similar entry saw a wonderful show of suckled calves on offer with all cattle forward still a very good trade,

The suckled calves & young stores met a flying trade with the best Continental steers trading between £550 - £600 (170 – 210p/kg) topping at £642 (183p/kg) for 8 month old Simmental’s & £590 (196p/kg) for 7 – 8 month old Limousin’s from M/s T Limbrick & Son, Sherbourne. Grand Simmental steers (7 – 8mnths) from Mr W Lane, Denchworth sold to £600 (195p/kg) with Limousin’s to £600

(181p/kg) from M/s R & M Butler, Ashford Hill.

The young heifers were also in demand with Limousin’s to £580 (210p/kg) &

£552 (185p/kg) again from M/s T Limbrick & Son.

The strong Continental steers (24+ months) continue to sell well with the best trading over £850 (135 – 150p/kg generally) selling to £995 (148p/kg) for

British Blue steers & £942 (141p/kg) for Charolais steers from M/s E, R & M

Ractliffe, Harescombe. Overage cattle also sold to a strong trade topping at

£960 (140/kg) for Limousin steers from M/s P & A Izamis, Deerhurst. Strong overage Friesian steers sold to £722 (103p/kg) from M/s R & J Merrett,

Slimbridge.

The stronger Continental x heifers saw the meated sorts in strong demand trading between £750 - £850 (130 – 150p/kg) topping at £920 (142p/kg) for overage Charolais’ again from M/s E, R & M Ractliffe. The native breeds saw

Hereford heifers to £822 (130p/kg) from the same home & £670 (126p/kg) from M/s P & P Colson, Witney.

The farming cattle (17 – 24mnths) saw a grand show on offer with 103 cattle from M/s D & M Whitcombe, Minety selling to £852 (165p/kg) for Charolais steers. Limousin steers from Mr P Hardwicke, North Nibley sold to £818

(140p/kg) & £810 (175p/kg) from Mr E Gantlett, Cricklade. The general run of

Continental steers sold between £630 - £720 (120 – 145p/kg). The native breeds saw Hereford steers to £735 (141p/kg) from Mrs A White, Minchinhampton.

The farming heifers also met a very strong trade but were in short supply with

the better sorts selling between £600 - £730 (125 – 150p/kg) topping at £795

(141p/kg) for Limousin’s from M/s E, R & M Ractliffe. The native breeds saw

Hereford heifers to £635 (122p/kg) from Mr P Hardwicke, North Nibley The general run of heifers were a similar trade trading generally between £500 -

£600 (125 – 140p/kg)

The younger steers (15 – 18mnths) saw met a firm trade. The best Continental steers traded between £600 - £700 (150 – 180p/kg) with Limousin steers to

£750 (160p/kg) from Mr C McCann, Watford. Charolais steers sold to £730

(170p/kg) & £702 (168p/kg) from M/s D & M Whitcombe. The native breeds saw Aberdeen Angus steers to £688 (148p/kg) from the same home with their

Friesian steers to £598 (132p/kg) & £572 (131p/kg)

The younger Continental heifers again sold well with the better sorts topping at

£690 (150p/kg) for Charolais heifers from M/s D & M Whitcombe.

A similar entry with again very few top quality handyweights on offer with the trade as strong as last week & again ahead of most other centres & deadweight outlets. The best lambs traded between 145 – 150p/kg topping at 155p/kg

Again a strong ewe trade with all forward meeting a flying trade. The best

Suffolk & Continental ewes traded between £65 - £75 topping at £79 with the best Mules traded between £50 - £60 topping at £61.50. The half meated ewes again seemed well sold selling generally between £50 - £60. Small ewes sold between £40 - £50. Slaughter rams sold to £70. Strong goats sold to £49 with medium sorts £30 - £38.

The continued strong finish trade saw a good trade on the stores with the stronger sorts £55 - £60 topping at £61.50. The medium lambs seemed well sold trading between £47 - £53. Only a handful of lambs under £45.

A few more forward again with a mixed show on offer met a very good trade with the better shaped cattle traded between 148 - 160p/kg with bulls topping at

161p/kg for a 650kg Simmental from M/s Boddington Estates with steers to

150p/kg for a 705kg British Blue from M/s M Hocken & Sons. The heifers sold to 159p/kg for a 570kg Simmental from M/s Breakspear & Sons. The lesser shaped sorts met a good trade selling between 120 – 135p/kg.

Another good entry with all types forward in strong demand. 13 overage steers continue to sell well topping at £922 for Mrs H Innes with 136ppkg top of the day, the 13 forward average 127. Heifers topped at £847 for N Lindsey,

145ppkg top price. Heifers averaged 124p. 33 cows forward saw the best meated types to 135ppkg for Continentals topping at £994 from Boddington

Estates. Generally the best Continental cows trading 120+, best Friesian 100-

110p with mediums 80-8tp, the steaking cows 65-70p, plainer 40-50p.

Genuine Dispersal Sale 86 Pedigree & Commercial Holstein Friesians

On behalf of R J D Taylor, Drews Farm, Leighterton. The complete Dispersal of 42 mature cows (2 nd -6 th calvers) and 10 youngstock. Many of the cows have been purchased from local Pedigree and Commercial herds and are privately recorded.

The cows are all year calving, cubicle housed comprising mainly strong dairy framed animals of powerful confirmation selected for their ability to produce milk and replacement calves. All cows are TB tested clear and PD’d prior to sale. October

NML cell counts average 86 with many of the fresh cows giving 40L daily. 9 of the youngstock sell by the well known Regan Crest RBK Die-Hard from the Genus stud and offer real promise and including 34 Pedigree Bulling Heifers comprising the complete and unselected crop of first class Pedigree Bulling heifers from the

“Peewit” herd the property of A E Gray, Malmesbury, Wilts. The heifers include daughters bred from Ridgefield (Magenta) Noremead (Magpie, Marbella, Bessie &
