READY – SET – VIEW:
PREPACKAGED LOANABLE LIBRARY DISPLAYS
Prepackaged loanable library displays were developed by the Youth Services Department
of the Nioga Library System with funding through a Federal Library Services and
Construction Act Grant (LSCA) via the New York State Education Department in 1990
as well as a 1994 LSCA project. Jean Van Tassell, the Project Coordinator, planned and
developed each display package. The concept of loanable library displays originated
with an idea from Elaine Jamele, former Children’s Librarian at the Lee-Whedon
Memorial Library in Medina.
The displays were developed to assist Nioga Library System member libraries in
preparing attractive in-library exhibits on pertinent topics for viewing by library patrons.
The displays were designed to be of particular interest to children and young adults. A
total of six packages have been developed on the following topics:
African-American Culture
Sports
Fire Safety
Family Reading Time
Many Peoples, Many Gifts
(Multicultural)
Native American Culture
Each prepackaged loanable library display contains books, realia, a poster, and an easel.
Each display also includes two copies of each book. One copy may be loaned to patrons.
The other copy is only for in-library display use.
Only member libraries with lockable exhibit cabinets may borrow the displays. Each
display is loaned out upon request for a one or two month period.
If you have any questions concerning this service please contact the General Services
Consultant at the Nioga Library System (716) 434-6167 ext. 31.
