UWA DIVING PROCEDURES SECTION 5.3 DIVER CLASSIFICATIONS Dive Supervisor Minimum Requirements: A current AS/NZ 2299 dive medical AS 2815 or Scientific Diver certification equivalent Emergency procedures and diving casualty management Current first aid, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and oxygen administration to diving casualties. Current SCUBA rescue techniques and management of casualties 100 hours logged open water experience with at least 5 hours >20 m and a minimum of 20 hours scientific diving Duties (see Responsibilities): Diver supervision Dive planning and record keeping Scientific diving Night diving Restrictions: 30 m max depth 50 hours logged open water experience with at least 20 hours >15 m and a minimum of 20 hours scientific diving Night diving experience : >10 hours if night diving planned Scientific Diver/Dive Team Leader Minimum Requirements: A current AS/NZ 2299 dive medical (annually) AS/NZ 2299.2 or Scientific Diver equivalent Current Emergency procedures and diving casualty management First aid, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and oxygen administration to diving casualties. SCUBA rescue techniques and management of casualties (current) Duties (see Responsibilities): may act as a Dive Supervisor at the surface/in water sampling techniques appropriate to the scientific discipline being pursued show proof of having undertaken >50hrs open water dives, to include a minimum of: o 10 dives between 15m and 20m o 12 dives in the last 12 months, including at least 6 with a scientific task of work. Dive planning and record keeping Scientific diving Night diving Restrictions (see Responsibilities): 30 m max depth 50 hours logged open water experience with at least 20 hours >15 m and a minimum of 20 hours scientific diving Night diving experience : >10 hours if night diving planned Restricted Scientific Diver Minimum Requirements: Hold a minimum of Rescue Diver, Scientific Diver certifications from a nationally recognised training agency or equivalent. Current ASNZ 2299.1 dive medical 30hrs of logged diving experience First aid, including cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and oxygen administration to diving casualties. Duties (see Responsibilities): Must reflect existing experience and certifications Restrictions (see Responsibilities): Only participate in low risk diving operations and may not perform duties above their experience level Be limited to 18m maximum depth; environment may not exceed 25m May not participate in restricted visibility operations Student Scientific Diver in Training Minimum Requirements: Approval to participate in UWA Student Diver Training Program An open water certification from a nationally recognised training agency Register and be approved into the UWA Dive Register (web based Dive Log) Current AS/NZ 2299 dive medical 15hrs of logged verified diving experience Basic First Aid New Diver Checkout Dive required by UDBSO or appointed delegate Hold a Current Open Water and Advanced Water from an accredited agency1 Duties (see SDTP Procedures and Handbook): Shall not exceed the limitations of competencies demonstrated by a Dive Master or higher in qualification from a nationally recognised agency Dives shall be low risk, controlled and well supervised with a nominal maximum depth 9m. With an environment not exceeding 15m of depth. Restrictions (see SDTP Procedures and Competencies Handbook) Visiting Scientific Diver Minimum Requirements: Current AS2299 dive medical Hold current Senior First Aid, CPR and oxygen administration certificates 1 Accredited agencies are as follows: PADI, SSI, NAUI, FAUI Hold a minimum of a Open Water, Advanced Water, Rescue Diver, Scientific Diver, or equivalent. At least 50 hours logged scientific dives Duties (see Responsibilities): Limited to duties within experience Or participate in any new training to expand underwater duties Restrictions (see Responsibilities): 30m in depth The dive officer approves the participation in the UWA’s dive operation Pass any evaluations required by the dive officer or DBSWG. Visiting Restricted Scientific Diver Minimum Requirements: Current AS/NZ2299.1 dive medical Hold current Senior First aid and CPR Hold a minimum Open Water, Advanced Diver or equivalent experience. Scientific Diver Assessment of Competencies Handbook must be completed and submitted to UDBSO for approval before participation in any dive field trip. Duties (see Responsibilities): Limited to duties within experience Or participate in any new training to expand underwater duties Restrictions (see Responsibilities): 15 m in depth The dive officer approves the participation in the UWA’s dive operation Pass any evaluations required by the dive officer or DBSWG Operations must be “low risk conditions”, controlled and well supervised Diver’s Attendant Minimum Requirements: Trained in dive rescue techniques Current Senior first-aid certificate/CPR Certified in oxygen administration Duties (see Responsibilities for full duties): Restrictions: May not leave the boat at any time, to swim or snorkel , other than in an emergency or when operating in an area which allows two person diving; May not carry out any activities, such as read, sleep or fish, which may divert his/her attention from the responsibilities set out above;
