Professor N Hancu and Prof R Lichiardopol proposed to include a sub-study of the Screening for Metabolic Syndrome, the objective being to evaluate the new
ADA criteria for classification of FBG (fasting blood glucose). In this project,
Prof O Racz also agreed to participate in developing the protocol. As a next step in the same study, an intervention could be applied in smaller groups, as a part of the European initiative to influence lifestyle among general population. Prof Racz shared the Slovakian experience with medical students who were involved in promoting healthy lifestyle, this experience could be used in the intervention groups of metabolic syndrome.
Prof R Lichiardopol (Bucharest) will submit to Prof L Madacsy a new protocol for screening of diabetes mellitus in order to be further submitted to IDF. This protocol is also included in the DIRECT initiatives to support screening for diabetes and other glucose intolerance.
The next working meeting will be held in June 2004 at Kosice, Slovakia, at the proposal of Prof O Racz.
