Spelling Focus
Short Vowels
A short vowel sound is usually
spelled with one vowel followed by
a consonant sound.
Sometimes the sound is spelled in
a different way. In the starred
words head and friend, the sound
/ĕ/ sound is spelled ea and ie.

* First, have an adult give you a pretest. The words spelled incorrectly on the pretest should be
practiced. Correctly spelled words do not need to be practiced since you already know how to
spell them. 
* You may choose some of the activities below to help you study and prepare for the test.

grade will tell me if you studied or not. 
