HOW TO GET A HIGH GPA?
“GPA” stands for “grade-point average”, which is a weighted-average number.
From my knowledge on mathematics and statistics, in order to make an average number
high, one should keep all the numbers included in the average as high as possible and to
avoid any outliers. In other words, we should treat every course seriously and put as
much efforts as possible on each courses so as to get good grades for the courses. In the
following paragraphs, I am going to talk about what I have done in order to get good
grades for my courses.
Manage your time:
One of the most important things is to manage your time efficiently. As I
mentioned before, we have to put as much efforts as possible on each courses in order to
get a high GPA. Therefore, we have to manage our time well and so we are able to take
care of every course. To do so, I will mark the due dates of all the courses’ assignments
and deliverables and the dates of mid-term exams and quizzes on my calendar. This helps
me plan for when to do what and avoid rushing to get work done before due dates. Also,
this allows me to easily see how these dates are distributed so that I can allocate my time
for reading and doing course works more efficiently.
Attend all your classes:
Being a full-time student, I am supposed to attend all my classes. However, this is
not the reason why I insist to attend my classes. Rather, it is because I do think that
attending classes helps me obtain good grades. Attending classes usually gives me a first
impression of what I am going to learn and the information regarding the course works’
requirements. More importantly, what the lecturers or instructors have gone through
during classes will usually appear in quizzes or examinations according to my past
experiences.
Keep doing your readings:
Attending classes is important but it alone is not enough for getting good grades.
What I usually do is to do the relevant readings after attending each class. Although I
always think that I am fine with what I have learned in classes, I will be likely to get
stuck on the concepts later if I did not do the readings after classes. Therefore, I think
doing readings on a continue basis is essential in the sense that it helps consolidate what I
have learned and enhance my understandings on important concepts.
Read your textbooks as well:
Congratulations if you have attended all your classes and have kept doing your
readings. I think you are likely to do well with your courses, at least not bad. Finally,
what materials do you read for you courses? According to my own observations, many
students just read their slides but never the textbooks. I can firmly tell you it is enough.
Reading through the slides alone may help you getting an average or above-average
grade. In order to get high GPA, I recommend you to read your textbooks as well as your
slides. This is because textbooks can help you obtain more consolidated and thorough
understandings on concepts and give you more examples which help you prepare for you
examinations. Eventually, you may find it easier for you to elaborate and explain your
ideas during examinations.
You may think what I have told you above are nothing special. Yes, you are right.
They are nothing special. Almost every student knows these are likely to help. However,
for most of the times, people fail to do what they know are beneficial. Therefore, I wish
the points I mentioned above can serve as a reminder for you. Lastly, I hope those who
are not doing so will start and try and those who have been already doing so will continue
and strive for excellence.
