Igneous Rock Foldable Directions
1) Fold your paper into 3 columns (up and down).
2) In the center column of the paper make a sketch of a volcanic structure. a.
Label where intrusive rock can be found (formed). b.
Label where extrusive rock can be found (formed).
3) Under your volcano sketch, on the intrusive igneous rock side (left), make a sketch of an intrusive rock. Make sure to show how the grains (crystals) are seen, as this rock cools slowly
4) Under your volcano sketch, on the extrusive igneous rock side (right), make a sketch of an extrusive rock. Make sure to show the smaller grains (crystals) on this type of rock a.
Name the type of rock for step 3 and 4
5) On the intrusive rock side (left column): a.
Describe how intrusive igneous rock forms (in your own words) b.
Describe the crystal size of intrusive rock c.
Give examples (seen in class), your text or on the internet. Label them as mafic (dark color) or felsic (light color) d.
Pick a specific formation of an intrusive igneous rock as mentioned in the book or in class. Label it and make a small sketch of it.
6) On the extrusive rock side (right column): a.
Describe how extrusive igneous rock forms (in your own words) b.
Describe the crystal size of extrusive rock c.
Give examples (seen in class). Label them as mafic (dark color) or felsic (light color) d.
