2. "How to keep a research society flourishing - or avoid
killing a society".
Discussion introduced by an international panel (see also
attached article). The following questions are preliminary
suggested to be discussed:
“How can members have a meaningful engagement with a
society? What are the most important functions of a
society for the members? Should societies’ strive for
consensus on certain issues across all members?”
How do you set conference registration fees such that the
society gains income without turning delegates off by
being too expensive?; What are the potential money
sources of a society?; Does a society need to have a journal
to survive ?”

Panel, with following discussion and appointment of
working group to continue work on agreed questions
“How do we distinguish between good and bad industries?
– the difference between the tobacco industry, alcohol
industry and pharmaceutical companies or should they all
be treated the same? Is there a difference between tied
