Research activities

During the last three decades, context and structures of youth development have considerably changed in Europe. Education and training, competitiveness and employability, as well as social and political participation represent only some key words that describe important research agendas as well as the public discourse within this area. Moreover, youth development in today’s society also implies intergenerational relations and the discussion about the distribution of public resources as indicated by the concepts of “resource fairness” and solidarity between generations. All these topics are studied within the Integrative

Research Unit on Social and Individual Development (INSIDE) within the FLSHASE. The

Associate Professor will be member of this unit where he/she will join the research axis

“Generations and Life span development” directed by Prof. Helmut Willems.

The candidate will contribute to the already existing national and international structures and networks of youth research and to the national perennial report on youth in cooperation with the Ministry of Family Affairs and Integration.

Several options for collaborative research exist within the research unit as well as at Faculty level. Within the research priority Education and Learning in Multilingual and Multicultural

Contexts, the Associate Professor will join the research strand Education and Learning in non-formal contexts.

At the level of evaluation research, further collaboration will be possible with the Research Unit EMACS. The Associate Professor will also work in close cooperation with the sociologists of research units IPSE (migration studies) and LCMI (education).

At Faculty level, the Associate Professor will also actively contribute to the new doctoral school currently being elaborated with the Research Unit IPSE.

Finally, the profile will also correspond quite well with the CORE Thematic Domain of

“Societal Challenges (SC)” of the Luxembourg Research Fund (FNR).
