Grow Deeper: Sermon Application Study available at the Welcome Booth The Oaks Christian Church Living Courageously Pastor Vic Alvarado Part 12 – March 18, 2012 We are Valuable to God Psalm 119:65-72 & Selected Scripture 5. What do you think it means to go “astray” (v.67)? How did God deal with that problem in the psalmist life? Is that how you would want Him to deal with it in yours? Why or why not? Application: For Individual and Group Study I. Getting Started: 1. If people truly believed that they were valuable to God, how would it change their view of themselves, of others? Be specific. II. Digging Deeper: 1. Read Psalm 119:65-72. On what basis does God deal with His servants, in light of verse 65? What do you think that means? 2. In verse 65, the psalmist says that God had “dwelt well” with him. What experience has he apparently just come out of, according to verse 67 and 71? Why could he talk about it in this way? 6. What does verse 68 reveal about God and His actions? Relate this to Romans 8:28-29. 7. What does verse 68 have to say about the seemingly “bad” things that happen in our lives? When you encounter such circumstances, what should you expect to come out of it? 8. Rephrase verse 72, replacing “thousands of gold and silver pieces” with something you would highly prize in life. How does this change your perception of God? III. Bringing It Home: 3. What will be the result of the Word’s instruction in our lives, when we start out believing what it says (v.66)? 4. Verse 67 reveals something about the re3lationship between affliction and instruction (see also v.71). What is the relationship? Is this the way we normally view affliction? 1. Place yourself in the psalmist’s shoes (vv.65-72). What did it include, and how did it come about? What were the results? Would the results be the same for you? What needs to change in order for the same results to occur in your own life? 2. What specific area(s) of need do you have in your life that we can support you in prayer this week?
