More comfortable travelling with the X 2000 Recognise yourself? When the first X 2000 high-speed train started rolling on the tracks back in 1990 the train became a quick and comfortable alternative for anyone on a long journey. That so many still choose the X 2000 is a sign of quality. But from this year you may find it hard to recognise the train. That’s because we are actually completely redesigning both the exterior and interior to meet the exacting demands of our most important customers, our passengers. Thanks to creative feedback and ideas from business passengers, the disabled and other X 2000 passengers you can now enjoy a more comfortable and more functional interior design, new innovative details and better service. You have access to wireless Internet On our new X 2000 trains you have wireless Internet, every seat has its own electrical socket and you will have full mobile coverage for all of your trip. The cushions on each and every seat have been changed and are ergonomically indented. As always there are plugs for headphones if you want to listen to the radio or music. The new “ear blinkers” on the seats give your head great support if you would like to lean back or just slumber for a while. Because many people travel on the X 2000 by themselves or in pairs we have due to demand situated more of the seats as neighbouring pairs, and at the same time put fewer where you are sitting opposite someone. All of the toilets have new interiors and lighting. ……and a delicious Bistro. The Bistro now has room for more than 20 diners, and that's more than double compared to before. It’s all too easy to dawdle in the soft, red sofas. Especially if you’ve just started on a steaming espresso from the new coffee machine. If you’re feeling peckish then there’s a wide selection of foods to choose from and we've also raised the quality of what’s on offer a notch or two. If you are travelling 1st class you get a lighter meal served to your seat. With our plus service you can buy a larger breakfast, meal or special meals. Also for the disabled the new trains will be more accommodating. In carriages with wheelchair lifts there are both wheelchair seats and disabled toilets. And clearer seat numbering and collapsible arm rests make it easier to find your seat and settle down to a relaxing trip. Know where you are Many passengers will have great use of our new electronic sign system on the doors. There is room there for more information than earlier. An example of this is showing any stops on the way to the main destination. The information system inside the carriages has also been improved. The train is a great choice for the environment As usual the X 2000 will carry you swiftly and safely from city to city. And the fact that our electrically-powered trains live up to the world’s toughest environmental certification, Good Environmental Choice (Bra Miljöval), is hardly a disadvantage either, is it? For instance, did you know that on a flight between Gothenburg and Stockholm each passenger is responsible for an emission of 66.3 kilos of carbon dioxide? And that by comparison the passenger taking our train causes only 3 grams in emissions? But now let’s get on to those other details we mentioned. The X 2000 routes The totally refurbished X 2000 trains will be put into traffic as they are completed. The first trains will traffic between Stockholm and Gothenburg as well as between Stockholm and Malmo. By the year 2007 all of the old X 2000 trains will have been changed for the new ones. From June 2005 the X 2000 will also travel on the route Sundsvall to Ostersund and from the autumn the routes Herrljunga to Uddevalla and Uppsala to Falun. We're looking forward to seing you aboard! The commuter’s dream is here Sweden’s most modern trains During 2005 Sweden’s first “double-decker”train in two floors will start rolling on the tracks to the south of Mälaren. The train is SJ’s latest investment in meeting the demands of our passengers and making life comfortable for those who travel by train every day. To get everything right from the beginning we have invited passengers, business travellers, pensioners and the disabled to influence the design and functions on the double-decker. This has resulted in practical and innovative solutions in the carriages and at each seat. More room for you Already when you board you will notice the difference. The doors are wider and the boarding is at the same level as the platform. This doesn’t just make it easier for those who have a wheelchair but also for those who have heavy bags or a pram. In the generous entré you will find both a vending machine and a drinks machine. Many of the toilets are large and disabledfriendly. Thanks to the two floors there are more seats on each train compared to our old trains. Once in your seat you only have to sit back and enjoy comfortable seating with built-in radio. You have mobile coverage throughout your trip and the seats have electricity sockets for your computer for instance. If you are sitting in the airy top deck then we recommend you enjoy the view. On hot summer days the air conditioning does a fantastic job of cooling you down. Smarter and quicker With the new double-deckers your trip will be shorter. This isn’t just because of the high top speed (200 km/h) but also because of more efficient acceleration and braking. Thanks to the wide doors, boarding and disembarkation goes quickly with short stops at stations as a result. And as we can connect carriages in only a minute we can adjust capacity according to how many are waiting on the platform at various times. See Mälardalen from the second floor Mälardalen, the area of Stockholm and its surrounding counties, will be easily viewed from the top floor of our first double-deckers. These will run between Stockholm, Eskilstuna and Arboga. In due time the double-decker will also be able to traffic places such as Vasteras, Linkoping and Gavle. The double-decker is an expression of our desire to make your time on the train usable, regardless of whether you want to work, read or just rest. The train will also be equipped with wireless Internet. It will be our pleasure to welcome you aboard in the future. Technical facts: the double-decker Number of seats: 2 carriage trains: 3 carriage trains: 180 seats 288 seats Length: 2 carriage trains: 3 carriage trains: 55.1 metres 81.5 metres Performance: Max speed 200 km/h Functional down to -35 degrees Flexibility: Up to 4 trains can be driven connected together and it takes a minute to disconnect or connect carriages. There are disabled toilets onboard. Equipment: Air conditioning including cooling and warm air outlets by the floors and the windows.
