1. Oregon country: huge area of land between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky

4. Oregon Trail: trail across the Great Plains through the Rocky Mountains that

5. Manifest Destiny: idea during the 1800s that it was the “destiny” of the United
States to expand its boundaries to the Pacific
6. James K. Polk: 1844, Democratic president who strongly supported Manifest
Destiny and sole ownership of Oregon
7. Davy Crocket: skilled hunter/storyteller who became congressman of Tennessee,
then headed to Texas, where he later became a brave leader at the Alamo
