Report on the fourth event organized by ACTREC Alumni Association ‘Second ALUmni
CHAT MEET’ at ACTREC on 2 nd May, 2012
The fourth AAA event second ‘ALUmni CHAT MEET Event’ was held at ACTREC on 2 nd May,
2012. The guest of honor Dr. Sunil Metkar (Research Scientist II, Northshore University
Healthcare System, Evanston, Illinois, USA) completed his Ph.D. from Cancer Research
Institute in 1999. At the onset, Dr. Sunil interacted with senior ACTREC officials (Deputy
Director and Chairpersons, CRI-ACTREC) about his overall journey of scientific achievements and recent developments in the area of understanding functions of and signaling through perforins and granzymes. In a gathering of ACTREC staff, students and trainees, Dr Sunil was introduced to all by Dr Jyoti Kode, Secretary, AAA. This was followed by formal seminar by Dr
Sunil on the topic ‘Can Perforin form proteolipid pores to deliver Granzymes?’ On this occasion
Deputy Director, Dr Surekha Zingde expressed her thoughts on this initiative of AAA with cohesive efforts of visiting alumnus, to share their experiences of post-doc and to interact with current students and trainees. As a token of deep appreciation of alumnus visiting ACTREC, Dr
Zingde in capacity of Patron, AAA felicitated Dr. Sunil Metkar with a special memento. In a more informal interaction held that evening, Dr. Sunil had tête-à-tête with ACTREC students and trainees. Everyone in the audience introduced themselves and talked about their future plans whether interested in post-doc, or become an entrepreneur or join an industry. Based on his scientific and MBA experience, Dr Sunil professionally delivered a talk on
‘conventional and non-conventional career opportunities in scientific field ’. It was a very enlightening and interactive session. The event ended with refreshments. Scientific and career-related information sharing continued till late evening. At the end Dr Sunil interacted with Dr Rajiv Sarin,
Director, ACTREC for a discussion on strategic issues.
