Re:
900 History, geography, and auxiliary disciplines: Selected topics
This exhibit provides updates to several countries of Central America, South America,
and Central Europe. The intention is to provide subdivisions for recent history based on
political administrations where feasible. Except for special circumstances, 2006 was used
as the cut-off date for named administrations in captions. Unqualified number spans are
used for administrations that came into power after 2006.

972.82 Belize
It makes sense to recognize the independence of Belize that occurred 1981. The current
caption for 972.8204 that was created in Edition 20 is not entirely appropriate, as Belize
remained a British colony through 1981, although from 1964 to 1981, Belize (British
Honduras until 1973) was a self-governing colony. It is proposed to include this period in
972.8204 where it should have been in the first place.
There are currently 24 works classed in 972.8205 in WorldCat, 21 of which are not
dealing with the relocated time frame, either because they have a Dewey number that
came from Edition 19 (when this class covered the entire 20th century), are more recent
works about contemporary Belize after 1989 (when the class was changed to cover 1964
3
to present), or are misclassed. Only three works appear to be specifically about topics
from the 1964–1981 period.
