POSITION OBJECTIVES:
This position reports to the Aquatic Operations Coordinator and directly supervises Lifeguard staff.
The primary objective of the role is to ensure, with the support and guidance of the Coordinator,
the efficient and effective operation of Leisurelink’s aquatic facilities.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Aquatic Operations Coordinator with the daily operations of the Aquatics facilities
including plant and pool maintenance, staff supervision, customer service, and safety of staff
and patrons.
2. Provide leadership to a team of lifeguards to ensure the delivery of high quality customer
service to patrons using the Aquatic areas of the centre.
3. Perform the role of both lifeguard and senior lifeguard on a regular basis.
4. Ensure that pool equipment and surrounds are maintained in appropriate condition at all times.
5. Ensure the water quality of the swimming pools is maintained in accordance with the Health
Department Regulations.
6. Perform routine pool plant maintenance including backwashing and chemical dosing.
7. Assist in the development and management of Aquatic staff rosters to ensure that all
operational needs are planned for.
8. Attend to general aquatic operational needs.
9. Provide Aquatic staff with appropriate training, feedback and development as delegated by the
Aquatic Operations Coordinator.
10. Assist centre staff in achieving Leisure Services objectives where practicable.
11. Adhere to all Council’s policies and procedures relevant to this position.

12. Carry out other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time
to time.

Several years experience in an Aquatic environment.

Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to build relationships with staff and
client groups.
Ability to implement commitment of excellence in customer service.
Good computer skills using a range of technologies, including Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and the Web as required. Familiarity with other software applications would be
considered favourably.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND EXTENT OF AUTHORITY:





Provide direct support and assistance to the Aquatic Operations Coordinator in accordance
with operational procedures, customer needs and nominated timeframes.
Responsible for the delivery of activities relating to Aquatics conducted by the Leisure Services
Department.
Ensure all staff are trained and work within OH&S policies and procedures.
The freedom to act is governed by clear objectives and procedures of the centre with regular
reporting to the Aquatic Operations Coordinator. The quality of work is subject to review by
more senior staff.
Accountable for creating and capturing accurate and complete records of the business
activities related to this position, in accordance with approved policy and procedures. This is
applicable to both hardcopy and electronic information, including email.
JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING:



The position will be required to deal effectively with new situations and make judgements with
guidance usually available from more senior staff within time required.
The position has the scope to make decisions in relation to aquatic day to day operations.
Participate in a team approach to problem solving and in developing improvements in
practices.
SPECIALIST SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:



Thorough understanding of relevant organisation and department procedures and processes.
Knowledge of Operational Procedures.
Proficient computer skills using a range of technologies, including Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and the Web are required.
MANAGEMENT SKILLS:




Efficient and effective planning and use of own time as well as subordinates to prioritise and
achieve specific and set objectives with the resources available and within set timeframes.
The ability to work in an autonomous capacity and as part of a team.
Provide staff leadership, development and supervision.
Ability to understand, implement and ensure staff compliance with Industrial Awards, Equal

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:









Several years experience in a customer service environment, preferably in a supervisory
capacity.
Several years experience in an Aquatic environment.
Demonstrated experience in a leadership role.
Demonstrated experience in the planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation of
innovative procedures.
Level 2 First Aid Award.
Pool Lifeguard Award.
Experience in Aquatic pool plant operations and delivery.
Current working with Children’s Check.
A current Victorian Driver's Licence.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is required to work evenings, early mornings and weekends on a regular basis.
