2) How to access the “coping through football services”
Coping Through Football is a project that seeks engage with and improve the wellbeing of young to mid life adults who have enduring mental illness by assisting in the recovery of those with mental illness
The aim is to use the football experience to get fitter, increase levels of self-esteem and confidence, make new friends and ultimately to help people get their lives back on track. It is not so much a football project but a social inclusion project that uses football as a tool to engage people who have experienced mental health problems. Most of the projects players have experienced social exclusion, unemployment, poor physical and mental health and lack a social network or support and Coping Through Football sets out to address these issues.
The project has been extremely successful in helping players to turn around their lives around and to live more independently. It has been recognised by the Department of
Health as a model of best practice in the recovery of people with long term mental health problems and the goal is to increase the number of people who benefit.
There are many success stories, players attend the project for a variety of reasons and want to achieve a variety of goals depending on the individual. Most want to improve their fitness and health, make more friends, improve their football skills or achieve a vocational goal.

How do I get involved?
There is a short referral form to complete which can be downloaded from http:www.copingthroughfootball.org/wp-contents/uploads/2011/2010/08-referral-form.pdf
, this can be completed by a health care worker involved in your care, if you do not have one you can contact Sonia Smith for further information on 0300 555 1266. There is no waiting list or cost involved so providing that you have no current health risks you can start attending as soon as you have been assessed.
We accept referrals from within Waltham Forest primary and secondary mental health and drug and alcohol services.
If you do not want to start playing in the session straight away you can come and watch, socialise or attend our social activities such as going to watch Leyton Orient FC play for free.
Social Inclusion
Whilst the main activity is football, the real goal is about social inclusion as many of our players have experienced discrimination, unemployment, poor physical and mental health and a lack of social networks and support. Participants attending the sessions feel a real sense of belonging and self worth and this helps in their road to recovery.
Case Studies
We have had many success stories, our players attend the project for a variety of reasons and want to achieve a variety of goals depending on the individual. Most want to improve their fitness and health, make more friends, improve their football skills or achieve a vocational goal.

Pathways to Employment
1) Richmond Fellowship Waltham Forest Employment
Service
Who we are:
Established in 1996, the employment support service in Waltham Forest began as a trio of advisors and has expanded over the years to become the large service today that is well-respected and trusted by health professionals and clients.
We offer employment support to people who wish to return to work after recovering from mental health problems. Our advisors work closely with community mental health teams and secondary care to support people with enduring mental health problems who are highly motivated to return to work.
In addition, we offer support to people who are employed, but risk losing their jobs because of work-related stress or other mental health problems.
Clients receive expert support from our qualified advisors in all areas of employment
- job search, applications, CVs, interview skills, training and career advice.
We offer job retention support for clients who are in work and experiencing mental health problems that lead to absence or poor performance. We also give advice and support for employers to help them understand and support their employees.
How we work:
Our clients receive one-to-one advice and guidance sessions from their own employment advisor. They get a personalised service which helps them identify their goals and plan effective ways of achieving them. The advisor supports, encourages and motivates them until they achieve their aims.
We work closely with local health services, education and training providers, volunteer centres, employers and Jobcentre Plus to ensure that each person has support tailored to meet their individual needs and goals.
What we achieve:
During 2010 - 2011 our employment team supported 90 people who had aspirations to return to employment or training and several of them gained paid work. Our job retention team supported 75 people and 95% of them were able to maintain their employment.

You are dealing with one of the premier vocational and supported employment services in the east London area as well as a team of dedicated professionals who have gained considerable experience and expertise in this field of work.
We are experts in the area of vocational guidance counselling, and training of people with learning disabilities. Some of our staff also have a business/commercial background, and are therefore very conscious of both the needs of yourselves as employers, and the vocational needs of our clients.
We actively seek work experience or supported employment placements for those clients who have shown a furthering commitment to extend their potential for employment opportunities as we as having a realistic concept of the work of work generally.
Our experience has shown that many of our clients many not interview as well as their fellow applicants. However, as managers with interviewing experience know, the skills required to interview well are often very different from the skills required to perform the job you are interviewing for. Therefore, we encourage employers to incorporate a work experience element to the selection process, to asses our clients ability.
Each client has a valuable skills and abilities. By focusing on what they can do, rather than what they cannot, real jobs are found with employers. This not only means employment and income, but independence, a sense of self worth and the chance to live their lives as integrated members of society.
A peer support group for people who hear voices. It is facilitated by Victoria

If you hear voices HVN can help - we are committed to helping people who hear voices. Our reputation is growing as the limitations of a solely medical approach to voices become better known. Psychiatry refers to hearing voices as 'auditory hallucinations' but our research shows that there are many explanations for hearing voices. Many people begin to hear voices as a result of extreme stress or trauma.
We offer information, support and understanding to people who hear voices and those who support them.
