Outline for the 2016 Corinthians UK Rally to the Channel Islands is:
Sailing the Channel Islands is gloriously tide and weather dependant. The itinerary
allows for this, with alternative transport or onshore activities and evening functions
spaced accordingly!
Friday 1st July, 2016
Assemble Cherbourg Marina*, France. Skippers’ briefing followed by an opening rally
buffet supper in the marina. Time for those who wish to stroll round the town to a cafe.
Saturday, 2nd July
Depart Cherbourg for Alderney late morning around HW and arrive at Braye Harbour
before 1400. Hire bicycles, walk, Alderney Train, visit Braye village, nunnery, etc.
Self-catering.
Sunday, 3rd July
Depart Braye Harbour for Guernsey late morning; arrive at St Peter Port, Guernsey at
16:00 when the tide allows entrance into the marina.
Self-catering.
Monday 4th July
Fast cruise round the island of Guernsey. For anyone staying ashore, lots to do in
Guernsey (Victor Hugo House, Museums, Forts, Castles, Neolithic burial grounds, etc)
Evening: 4th July celebration – rally dinner & something special.
Tuesday 5th July
Day visit to the beautiful island of Sark by ferry (optional). A few boats may sail there.
Evening: drinks party at Guernsey Yacht Club. Dinner self-catering / local restaurants.
Wednesday 6th July
Day sail to the small island of Herm. Anchor off, take a picnic ashore or lunch at a local
hostelry. Return to St Peter Port, or anchor off depending on weather. Self-catering.
Thursday 7th July
Sail to the island of Jersey; enter St Helier Marina beside Maritime Museum. Selfcatering.
Friday 8th July
Lay day to explore Jersey. An optional tour may be offered. Visit the Durrell Wildlife
Park. Lots to see and do: sightseeing, museums, markets, shopping.
Evening: final Corinthian dinner and prize giving at the St Helier Yacht Club.
Saturday, 9th July
Departures and change overs. Some people will sail back to the UK or return home via
Paris*; others will continue South to Brittany for an informal follow-on cruise, reaching
St Malo in time for 14th July Bastille Day celebrations.
*Getting there: there are good train links from Paris airport to Cherbourg. Homeward
bound there are ferry links from St Helier, Jersey, to St Malo and fast trains to Paris.
Travelling via the UK, there are ferry services to Cherbourg and flights from St Helier.
