JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Consultant Anaesthesia

QUALIFICATIONS: i Graduate from a recognised medical school. ii Saudi Board or equivalent higher qualification in Anaesthesia

EXPERIENCE:

Essential i Minimum of six (6) years training during which he/she will have rotated through various sub-specialties including Paediatrics, Cardio-thoracic, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics,

Intensive care, Emergency Medicine and Pain Relief. ii Must be conversant with epidural techniques, capable of instituting post-operative pain relief and also able to manage unaided lists in General Surgery and its sub-specialties,

ORL & HNS, Ophthalmology, Urology, Orthopaedics, Dental, Obstetrics and

Gynaecology. iii Two ( 2 ) years of the above must be as Senior Registrar in Anaesthesia.

Desirable: i Extra skills such as Anaesthesia for neonatal surgery and open-heart surgery. ii Publisher of original work, have participated and preferably led original research.

PERSONAL QUALITIES/SKILLS: i Self-motivated and with awareness of current trends in the field. ii Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment. iii Ability to speak, write and read Arabic and English.

JOB OUTLINE: i To exercise the highest possible standard of patient care according to his clinical privileges and available resources. ii To participate in the training and teaching programme of the hospital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: i Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division. ii Provides the highest standard of medical care for patient for whom he/she is responsible. iii To cover ICU (as applicable) whenever instructed by the Director/Head of Anaesthesia and according to his approved clinical privileges. iv Takes part in the education of all staff assigned to work in Anaesthesia and ICU (as applicable) and prepares material used for teaching and contributes to educational activities of the hospital. v Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management

Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable. vi Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division. vii Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to continuing medical education. viii Participates in meetings and continuing medical education for the Anaesthesia

Department/Division, Recovery Room and ICU staff (as applicable). ix Participates in the planning and further developments in the department/division.

JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Consultant Anaesthesia x Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness. xi Serves on hospital committees as requested. xii Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects. xiii Deputises for his superior as requested and shares workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues. xi Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated. xv Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.
