Discussion ensued regarding proposed road names. This property has never been
developed. Suggestions included using former Town Supervisors’ names and/or names of
Tilly Foster miners. It was agreed to look into using the names of prominent old
Southeast families for which roads have not already been named (911 compliance).
Kathleen Abels to develop a list and then seek input from Commission members, etc. al..
Diehl House Letter
Letter dated 05/12/04 to Mr. Vinny Tamagna, Putnam County Legislature, from Melissa
S. FitzGerald was read. In it, Ms. FitzGerald, the great-niece of Edith Diehl, seeks help
in having this building placed on “the Historic Register of the State of New York.”
Commission members all agreed that this house has historic significance. Rob Gosselink
will follow up with Ms Fitzgerald, and matter will also be referred to Michelle Powers for
her expertise in this process.
Rocky Dell Farm Letter
Letter dated 06/01/04 to the Honorable John Dunford, Supervisor, and Honorable
Members of the Town Board from Katherine P. Dwyer was read. In it, Ms. Dwyer
indicates that her house has been added to “the list of sites recognizing its historic
importance to the Town of Southeast” and requests that ”all of the buildings that made up
Rocky Dell Farm “ also be added to the town’s list of historic sites.
The Commission was unaware of the Rocky Dell Farm House being added to a town list
of historic sites. The matter of the barns on the proposed Straza Subdivision was
addressed at our quarterly meetings on June 3, 2003 and September 16, 2003. Members
of the Commission also made field inspections of the buildings. Our recommendations
were sent to former Supervisor Lois Zutell in a letter dated December 2, 2003 (attached).
The Commission agreed not to re-visit this issue. The Commission suggested that the
Town re-direct Ms. Dwyer to working with the property owners of record on an amicable
resolution.
Update on Historic Plaque Program
As both Al Bevacqua and Amy Campanaro of the Southeast Museum were unable to
attend this meeting, this agenda item was postponed.
