Town of Southeast Historic Sites Commission Quarterly Meeting 7 PM, June 1, 2004 Town Hall, 1 Main Street, Brewster, NY 10509 Minutes Commission Members present: Ray Knox, Rob Gosselink, Betty Barrett, Kathleen Abels Guest: Daniel Richmond, Zarin & Steinmetz, Attorneys at Law, for Campus at Field Corners Project Ray Knox led the Pledge of Allegiance Campus at Field Corners Discussion ensued regarding proposed road names. This property has never been developed. Suggestions included using former Town Supervisors’ names and/or names of Tilly Foster miners. It was agreed to look into using the names of prominent old Southeast families for which roads have not already been named (911 compliance). Kathleen Abels to develop a list and then seek input from Commission members, etc. al.. Diehl House Letter Letter dated 05/12/04 to Mr. Vinny Tamagna, Putnam County Legislature, from Melissa S. FitzGerald was read. In it, Ms. FitzGerald, the great-niece of Edith Diehl, seeks help in having this building placed on “the Historic Register of the State of New York.” Commission members all agreed that this house has historic significance. Rob Gosselink will follow up with Ms Fitzgerald, and matter will also be referred to Michelle Powers for her expertise in this process. Rocky Dell Farm Letter Letter dated 06/01/04 to the Honorable John Dunford, Supervisor, and Honorable Members of the Town Board from Katherine P. Dwyer was read. In it, Ms. Dwyer indicates that her house has been added to “the list of sites recognizing its historic importance to the Town of Southeast” and requests that ”all of the buildings that made up Rocky Dell Farm “ also be added to the town’s list of historic sites. The Commission was unaware of the Rocky Dell Farm House being added to a town list of historic sites. The matter of the barns on the proposed Straza Subdivision was addressed at our quarterly meetings on June 3, 2003 and September 16, 2003. Members of the Commission also made field inspections of the buildings. Our recommendations were sent to former Supervisor Lois Zutell in a letter dated December 2, 2003 (attached). The Commission agreed not to re-visit this issue. The Commission suggested that the Town re-direct Ms. Dwyer to working with the property owners of record on an amicable resolution. Update on Historic Plaque Program As both Al Bevacqua and Amy Campanaro of the Southeast Museum were unable to attend this meeting, this agenda item was postponed. Website Update Draft of Website Update was reviewed. Corrections were made and were left at Town Hall for Mary Rhuda. Town of Southeast Proposed Code Amendments pertinent to Historic Sites Commission were reviewed. There were no objections to any of the proposals. Next Meeting It was agreed to meet in the beginning of September, 2004 at 7 PM in Town Hall, date TBA. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at approximated 08:35 p.m..
