This Position Reports to:
 Injury Management Team Leader

Primary Purpose of Position




To coordinate and facilitate the management of workers compensation claims for DPC and client agencies, including assessing, investigating,
reviewing, negotiating and determining workers compensation claims, weekly and provisional liability entitlements, approving medical treatment
and lump sum payments in accordance with the relevant legislation, regulations, government policies and Performance Standards for Self
Insurers.
To provide an expert advisory, consultancy and training service to DPC business unit managers/supervisors and client agencies in relation to all
aspects of workers compensation claims management and administration.
To liaise with and provide advice to managers/supervisors, injured employees, medical practitioners, external providers, and union / legal
representatives regarding workers compensation matters.
To assist in the development, implementation, evaluation, review and improvement of the workers compensation claims management /
administration policies, procedures and processes.
Outcomes




Effective and efficient claims management / administration services to ensure that injured employees receive fair and accurate compensation.
Professional and expert workers compensation claims advisory and consultancy services to all DPC business units, clients and stakeholders.
Effective injury management goals, objectives and strategies implemented, and regularly monitored and reviewed.
Strong working relationships with business units and bureau service clients.

course or equcvalent.

Experience
 Experience in the maintenance of computer based
rehabilitation/claims management systems.

 The incumbent reports to the Injury Management Team Leader and

Essential Attributes (Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements)
 Sound knowledge of the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation
Act 1986, Regulations, Performance Standards for Self Insurers and
precedent case law.
 Knowledge of medical and legal terminology associated with the
factors influencing the management of work related injuries/ illnesses.
 Broad knowledge of the Public Sector Management Act,
Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare Act.
 High-level organisational skills, including the proven ability to manage
high volumes of work and determine priorities to meet strict timelines.
 Ability to work with minimal supervision and participate as a team
member to achieve agreed outcomes.
 Demonstrated experience in managing complex workers
compensation claims including assessing, investigating, reviewing,
negotiating and determining workers compensation claims,
entitlements and lump sum payments.
 Experience in developing and implementing injury management
strategies to achieve safe and successful rehabilitation and return to
work outcomes.
 Demonstrated experience interpreting and consulting on aspects of
the legislation, regulations, policies and performance standards
relating to workers compensation.
 Experience in effectively communicating and negotiating with a
diverse range of clients at various levels (both verbal and written),
including medical and legal practitioners.
 Experience in effective and successful problem solving, conflict
resolution and decision making techniques in the workers
compensation environment.
Key Challenges
 Working in a highly confidential environment and dealing with
sensitive and contentious matters.
 Ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation, regulations,
performance standards and government policies.
 Keeping up to date with legislative changes, IM initiatives /
innovations to continually improve services.
 Establishing and maintaining effective communication and working
relationships with all stakeholders.
