Dear SENCO
RE: Transition to Post-Primary for children with an Autistic Spectrum
Disorder
According to our database, there may be one or more pupils with an Autistic
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) transferring to your school in September 2013 .
As part of our continuing service to support pupils with an ASD in their transfer from
Primary to Post-Primary school, we have found it beneficial to provide Autism specific transfer training and to produce transition booklets for each child.
Transfer Workshops
You may have already availed of our 2 day Post-Primary INSET which provides information on preparing the child for the transfer process. If however, you have
not availed of this training and would like further information, it may be beneficial to attend specific transfer training.
This training is also applicable for teachers and assistants working
directly with year 8 pupils with a diagnosis of ASD.

Friday 31 May 2013.
Substitute costs and teachers travel will be the responsibility of
the school.

Transition Booklet
A transition booklet consists of visual information and is illustrated using digital photographs and clear, concise text. Many schools have found this strategy alleviates much of the anxiety that a pupil with an ASD may experience during the transition period.
We would be most grateful for your support in facilitating the transfer of these children by providing a transition booklet of your school your information.

We would ask that completed transition booklets be forwarded to the service not later than Friday 31 May 2013 to facilitate us in presenting these to prospective pupils at our forthcoming transition workshop.
