WILLOW PLANTING VOLUNTEER WORKDAY
Friday January 28, 10-2
Sears Point Ranch, San Pablo Bay
Join the fun! The Sonoma Land Trust is teaming up with REI for
a willow planting workparty at Sears Point Ranch on January 28,
10-2. Volunteers are needed to help sprig riparian areas with willow poles as part of a
riparian enhancement project. This project is level “3” and includes a hike to the project site;
activities continue rain or shine. For more information or to sign-up, please email:
volunteer@sonomalandtrust.org.
The 2,327-acre property along Hwy 37 was once proposed as a casino site and is now
permanently protected with extensive wetland and watershed restoration planning underway.
Since the late 1800s, the San Francisco Bay has seen a loss of 85% of its historic tidal
wetlands. The Sears Point Restoration Project will restore nearly 1,400 acres of diked
agricultural baylands to tidal marsh and seasonal wetlands with fantastic new opportunities
for future public access. Willow sprigging is part of our effort to enhance the nearly 1,000
acres of upland grasslands and riparian corridors that drain to these future wetlands.
The Sonoma Land Trust develops long-term land-protection strategies for the varied
regions of the county, acquires conservation easements and properties of special significance;
manages preserves; works on land stewardship and restoration projects; and provides
opportunities for hikes, environmental education and restoration activities. Since 1976, the
Sonoma Land Trust has protected more than 25,000 acres of beautiful, productive and
environmentally significant land. For more information, please go to:
