4 December 2015
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you to everybody who participated in our celebration Mass on Sunday marking the
start of advent. Many people have commented on how beautifully the children from our
school led the service. It appears this was just the start of a very busy week for the children
(even with our occasional day on Monday)….
 Year 6 visited the Abbey on Tuesday for their Carol service along with a number of
other schools in St Albans. Sam and Alex represented the school beautifully as
readers.
 Reception and KS1 have all been to the Baptist Church on a Christmas trail where they
dressed up and re-enacted the nativity story.
 Year 5 had a visit from a Greek soldier yesterday and had a wonderful day learning
more about Ancient Greece to enhance what they have been learning in the classroom.
They really got into the spirit of the day dressing up in robes too.
 Year 4 are presently enjoying themselves at Harry Potter Studios, so we look forward
to hearing about their day when they return!

Next Wednesday 9 December we will be having a phonics open morning. Parents are
welcome to pop in and see the Read Write Inc phonics groups from 9:10am.
Reception Celebration Assembly
Reception will have their celebration assembly on Friday 11 December.
KS1 Christmas Production
The KS1 Christmas production will be on Tuesday 15 December at 1:30pm. Teas and coffees
will be available in the dining hall after the performance whilst you wait for your child to get
changed. Please join us.
Open Afternoon for Parents
Following the success of our last open event, we will be opening the doors to all parents to
come along and see your child in their class. This will be on Wednesday 16 December from
1:15pm to 2:30pm. The children will be involved in Christmas activities and you are welcome
to join in!
It is a wonderful opportunity for parents to see what goes on in the school and the children
take great pride in showing you what they are doing. Please come along if you can.
Violin Concert
Also on Wednesday 16 December there will be a violin concert in the Hall. If your child is
playing at this concert you are of course invited to stay and watch. If your child is not
performing but you would like to stay, you are most welcome.
Text Santa
The chaplaincy team have suggested that the school participates in Text Santa by wearing
Christmas Jumpers on our last day of term. For a £1 donation children can wear their
snazziest, cosiest most Christmassy jumpers, or they can accessorize their own school
jumpers (for just this one day of course…). We can’t wait to see what comes in!
The Great St John Fisher Bake Off Reminder
On Thursday 17 December we will be having a St John Fisher Bake Off! This will take place
after the Christmas lunch. There is a £1 entry fee for a homemade cake, cooked as much as
possible by the child! Funds raised will go to purchasing new aprons and equipment for
cookery sessions at school. There is no theme but please give your cake a name eg
Victorious Sponge. The cakes will be judged and prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
places.
Schoolcomms
From the Spring Term Schoolcomms will replace the Wisepay online payment system. You
will soon be able to pay for meals, after school clubs, trips, music, milk online via debit/credit
cards via the Schoolcomms Gateway application. You will need to register before you can
make any payments but further details will follow.
Yours sincerely
