MBA Building Goals 2009- 2010 BOE GOAL #2: Link state and local curriculum standards, student assessments, and instruction so that students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. MBA BUILDING GOAL: To effectively build strategies, interventions and assessments to address individual students academic needs through a proactive process which promotes Scientifically Research Based Instructional (SRBI) practices. RATIONALE: SRBI is the practice of providing high quality instruction and intervention matched to individual student needs, monitoring progress frequently though formative assessments in order to make informed decisions about changes to instruction or goals. Our CMT scores remain solid across grade levels and we continue to see improvement as students go from grade 6 to 8. Upon in depth analysis, the staff found a need to address those students that were below goal and raise their individual performance. The SRBI three tiered framework model was introduced last year. At Tier 1 level, we will continue to differentiate instruction within the classrooms as well as develop and utilize formative assessments. We will pilot universal screenings through the Connecticut Benchmark Assessment System (CBAS) three times per year in math and language arts. We will also support staff in the development of universal screeners for Reading and Math; and develop CFA's for content areas in vertical teams with CREC’s presenters, Julie Giaccone and Craig Creller. At Tier 2 level, specific measurable goals for individual students were introduced last year. This year, we will continue to develop those goals and introduce progress monitoring of students to watch for individual student growth though researched on-line programs. We will also research instructional programs to remediate for deficiency in skills or concepts specifically in reading. Additionally, we will research and build Tier 3 supports for those students not responding to Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions.
